Ny rytter til Nathalie zu Sayn-Wittgensteins Fabienne / New rider for Nathalie zu Sayn-Wittgensteins Fabienne

A closer look at the start- and result lists from the Danish national event at Sundeved which takes place this weekend, you will find Nathalie zu Sayn-Wittgenstein´s international Grand Prix partner over the last few years - the now 15-year-old Fabienne.

With new appointment as national Danish team coach Nathalie has also chosen to put her own international career on temporarily hold, which meant that Fabienne had to "retire" from the sport before it actually was planned. Therefore Nathalie was thinking about the possibilities keeping Fabienne in the sport, but with a new rider. The choice of the new rider became Victoria Vallentin as she is already experienced at the U25 level with success together with Select Ecco.

Nathalie and Victoria have made an appointment for the next 2 years. Fabienne has now been 14 days at Victoria´s place and the couple made their debut together today at Intermediaire II wheere they were placed 3rd with 68.465%. Of course Victoria was super happy after only 14 days of cooperation, and she is excited to learn Fabienne even better to know and hopefully gain future international success together.

Day 1 at the indoor Dutch championships was not unexpected with the KWPN stallion Expression with Diederik van Silfhout in the saddle in the top of the Prix Sct. Georg class of 74.69%. A flawless and expressive test where Diederik shows a focused top test with Expression. Although we haven´t seen this combination a lot at the small tour level, your just thinking that they might already be ready for the next level, despite the fact that Expression is still just 8 years old.

In the Grand Prix tour it was 2 x Marieke van der Putten and 2 x Adelinde Cornelissen at the top of the class.

First impressions from H2R was clearly Adelinde Cornelissen and Aqiedo in front, but the judges placed them 4th with just 70.60%. Generally perhaps a bit too cautious test, but super quality in piaffe / passage and transitions and great series. Adelinde also showed Zephyr with the start as she becomes no. 3 with 71.03% - as the only combination in the Grand Prix Adelinde showed Zephyr in a snaffle. In general, many good things, but unfortunately lacking clear rhythm and balance in the piaffe and that affects the transitions too.

Marieke van der Putten riding two strong tests with Ambria and Glock's Federleicht. Generally, Ambria in a somewhat narrow in the form, and in piaffe one might wish for a bit more over the back rhythm. Federleicht goes a great test, bit lacking bend in half passes, nice piaffe and good passage and generally a strong canter tour with good series, pirouettes and good finale at the centerline.

Tomorrow is freestyle finals.

Isabell and the horse that nearly went to heaven win in Gothenburg

He was once so frightened and unmanageable that no one could get on him as a young horse. But in the hands of one of the most celebrated equestrian athletes of all time, the 11-year-old gelding Emilio gave Germany’s Isabell Werth her fifth victory in the FEI World Cup™ Dressage 2017 Western European League qualifier at Gothenburg in Sweden today. Her score of 84.200 put her well ahead of Swedish runners-up Patrik Kittel and Delaunay (80.910) while, mirroring the results of yesterday’s Grand Prix, Germany’s Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and Unee BB (80.845) slotted into third.

Werth (47) only had a two-day turnaround after winning the previous leg of the series with Don Johnson at Neumunster (GER) last weekend. “So I asked my rider at home to prepare Emilio in the right way - and I think she did that!” she said after her Grand Prix success. Today however she said the horse lost a bit of confidence in the Freestyle. “I realise now that he needs more training because he didn’t always know what to do and we had two mistakes, in the pirouette and tempi changes”, she explained. However that has just inspired her ahead of the last qualifying leg in ’s-Hertogenbosch (NED) where she will again compete Emilio in two weeks’ time. “I’m really excited about going there now” said Werth who holds an unassailable lead at the top of the league table.

Her preferred ride for the FEI World Cup™ Dressage Final in Omaha, Nebraska (USA) next month is her Olympic mare Weihegold, but she now considers Emilio a strong reserve. Werth’s perseverance with this horse is really paying off - “he has great potential, already his piaffe and passage are fantastic!” she said today.

Talking about the erratic behaviour that left Emilio with something of a reputation in his early years, she explained, “it was as if he could see something out of the corner of his eye when you tried to get in the saddle, he was terrified and would go crazy.” There seemed no future for a horse with such a dangerous and debilitating level of inexplicable fear. “He nearly went to heaven”, Werth said of the gelding for whom she now has very high hopes.

“Emilio was lucky to come to Isabell, not all horses find the right people!” said Kittel (40) who was thrilled with his result with the ever-improving Delaunay today. The Swedish star has now moved up to ninth place on the league table from which the top nine will qualify for the Final. He won’t be travelling however, “it was never in my plan” he said today, but von Bredow-Werndl (31), who holds sixth place, certainly will. She has the next few months carefully mapped out. “I will go to Omaha, then do two more shows and then I take a break” said the rider whose is expecting her first baby in August.

Result: 1, Emilio (Isabell Werth) GER 84.200; 2, Delaunay (Patrik Kittel) SWE 80.910; 3, Unee BB (Jessica von Bredow-Werndl) GER 80.845; 4, D’Agostino FRH (Fabienne Lutkemeier) GER 77.720; 5, Di Lapponia T (Paulinda Friberg) SWE 76.750; 6, Thriller (Katja Gevers) NED 73.630; 7, Rustique (Mai Tofte Olesen) DEN 72.805; 8, Languedoc (Kristian von Krusentierna) 70.415; 9, Charmeur (Malin Rinne) SWE 70.030; Edvin (Per Duvefelt) SWE 66.185; 11, Catch Me (Margo Timmermans) NED 62.665.

Quotes:

Isabell Werth GER (1st): “For Omaha (FEI World Cup™ Dressage 2017 Final) Weihegold is my first choice and Emilio is my second choice, but there is no need to put pressure on him (Emilio) so we will see how it works out.”

Patrik Kittel SWE (2nd): “I’m not going to Omaha - we all make plans and my plan is different. This year my goal is the European Championships here in Gothenburg. Delaunay has blossomed here this week, I wasn’t sure he could cope with the atmosphere in there today but he was great, he has matured a lot and I’m really happy with him.”s

Jessica von Bredow-Werndl GER (3rd): I’m happy even though at first I was better than Patrik, (a higher mark) but then the score was changed! I’m happy with my ride and it’s super to be in top three.”

Annette Fransen Iacobaeus, Ground Jury President: “Today’s competition was very exciting, we saw some really good riding. We had a mixture of less experienced and top riders today.”

Isabell Werth GER (1st), when asked to rank Emilio amongst the horses she has competed during her career: “That’s like asking amother which child she loves the most! Horses today are different, Gigolo was a wonderful horse but breeding has changed and so have the horses. Emilio is definitely one of top ones, he has great passage and piaffe.”

Werth på vej mod 5. World Cup kvalifikation sejr med 3 forskellige heste / Werth towards 5th World Cup qualifier victory with 3 different horses

World Cup Grand Prix sejr til Werth & Emilio

World Cup kvalifikations sejr med 3 forskellige heste.

Se resultatet af klassen her.

World Cup Grand Prix win for Werth & Emilio

A small field in Gothenburg with just 11 combinations for today's World Cup Grand Prix. Unfortunately both Rose Mathiesen and Juliette Ramel did not start as first announced.

From the top of the scoreboard Isabell Werth could once again establish herself as what she is - world's best rider, and on the way to this season's ultimate addition of strength with her 5th World Cup qualifying victory with 3 different horses.

Along with Weihegold OLD Werth has broken the +80% Grand Prix point scale more times, and today Werth could also celebrate this task together with Emilio. With next leg of the World Cup qualifier in s'Hertogenbosch where presumably Emilio is ready to start again, it seems as if Werth will have 3 horses qualified for the World Cup finals in Omaha - an extremely achivement at the top of international dressage.

"Come back" for Delaunay and Di Lapponia T

Kittel and Delaunay has not been out since last summer at the international event at Falsterbo in Sweden, instead Kittel and Delaunay has spent the fall together in the "gym" which today paid of with their best World Cup Grand Prix result to date, with 75,140 %.

It was also "come back" for Paulinda Friberg and Di Lapponia T, which we have not seen since last year in July in Aachen, when they were aiming for a spot for the Olympics. The couple also came back strongly with 71.340% which is up to their best level which also was in Gothenburg -  2 years ago back in 2015.

Eftermiddagens international Prix Sct.

Se resultatet af klassen her.

Incredible Isabell posts fourth victory of season in Neumunster

With consummate ease, and more than a little style, Germany’s Isabell Werth claimed her fourth victory of the FEI World Cup™ Dressage 2016/2017 Western European League at Neumunster (GER) today, scoring 82.455. She already had a hat-trick under her belt following wins at Lyon (FRA), Stuttgart (GER) and Amsterdam (NED) but those were all achieved with her sensational 12-year-old mare Weihegold FRH. Today however it was the 15-year-old Don Johnson who claimed the limelight for the 47-year-old rider whose never-ending list of accolades includes two World Cup titles.

Runner-up was 2013 champion Helen Langehanenberg (34) with the 15-year-old Damsey FRH whose enthusiastic final extended trot almost brought him eye-to-eye with Ground Jury President Dr Hans-Christian Matthiesen. The close encounter didn’t prevent a strong score of 79.150 however, pinning The Netherlands’ Madeleine Witte-Vrees (44) into third on a mark of 77.765 while, last to go of the 15 starters, Switzerland’s Marcela Krinke-Susmelj (51) finished fourth with Smeyers Molberg.

The cosy fit of the Neumunster arena is always a character-test for horses, with the judges and spectators only a whisper away from the action, so Werth was delighted that “Johnny” held it together after tension in yesterday’s Grand Prix which they won by a relatively slender margin ahead of Witte-Vrees. “He was really super today, really happy and focused so I enjoyed it and could take a lot of risk. The atmosphere here is always difficult but I was fairly confident, even though you never know exactly what’s going to happen - especially with Johnny!” she said.

The knowledgeable crowd were so accurate with their scores in the spectator judging that show organiser, Paul Schockemohle, joked “maybe we don’t actually need judges all the time!”  Witte-Vrees said the spectators “showed great respect and gave almost a standing ovation for every rider!”, but the intensity of it all saw Judy Reynolds’ 15-year-old Vancouver K bubble over to leave the Irish pair well down the order in tenth place.

It was all good news for Werth however, and she knows she is spoilt for choice as she heads to Gothenburg (SWE) for the penultimate qualifier next week with Emilio and then brings Don Johnson to the last leg in “s-Hertogenbosch (NED) ahead of the series Final in Omaha (USA) next month. “It’s great to have so many horses in good form at the same time and I’m delighted with Johnny today. He’s like a good red wine, he keeps getting better!” she said.

Quotes:

Isabell Werth GER (1st): “The crowd here go crazy after each test, so a lot of horses get a bit crazy with all the applause and the prize-giving can be very intense! Sometimes Johnny bucks when he’s excited but mostly he tries to take care of me. He has a lot of character and he doesn’t mean to be mean!”

Helen Langenanenberg (2nd): “I won here in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and it’s very emotional to be back! The crowd was fantastic and welcomed me back so it’s been a great day. I’ve had this horse for a year but we are still getting to know each other. His previous rider was very tall and I’m small so we both have to adapt. Today I felt we were really working together so now it’s time now to start making some plans.”

Madeleine Witte-Vrees NED (3rd): “My next show is Den Bosch, and with today’s points I may be qualified for Omaha so if it stays that way I will definitely go. I changed things in my test today and it was good, I’m happy. There were three major mistakes during the test too, but my horse is still quite young, only 10, so it’s ok to make mistakes, we know we still have work to do.”

Dr. Hans-Christian Matthiesen, Ground Jury President, talking about the new judging system introduced this season: “The judges having to concentrate even more. It’s a challenge and a different way of thinking than in the past. We have a meeting at each show before the competition to discuss things, but I know once we all get used to it then it will be easier.”

Show organiser Paul Schockemohle: “We have had 38,000 spectators at Neumunster this week and today we have a full house!”

Endnu en Werth World Cup sejr / Another Werth World Cup victory (GP video)

Both Grand Prix and today's World Cup freestyle was won by Isabell Werth with Don Johnson. No one seems to be able to threaten Werth on her way to the World Cup finals in Omaha.

Klatte hingste show med stort aftryk af Helgstrand Dressage / Klatte stallion show with huge imprint from Helgstrand Dressage

This year's stallion show from Klatte was an extraordinary experience, even when you were not among the spectators in the arena. Clipmyhorse was ready with streaming for the entire world, and today you can catch up via the archive.

High-lights from the stallions presentation

Welcome by both Henrik Klatte and Andreas Helgstrand, both expressed their joint successful cooperation.

4 year old Freischütz by Foundation / Del Martino was shown by Severo Jurado Lopez. A stallion that goes with good balance and perspective for the future.

3 year old Spotify by Sezuan / Hotline recently purchased at the southern German auction was shown by Søren Wind, and Ulf Möller could tell that it was only the 10th time under saddle for the long legged stallion. Super rideable with good balance.

One of the few "other" stallions on the program was the Totilas / Jazz son Governor with Adelinde Cornelissen. Super positive development showing the qualities you want from a modern riding horse.

From the same year is Grand Galaxy Win as we recently saw with Severo in Den Bosch. Lots of expression and positive power, and showing nice flying changes and very good trend for slightly higher collection. Looks like a stallion with the whole package on his way towards Grand Prix.

One of the audience's favorites from the KWPN stallion licensing was Jack Sparrow by Expression / Vivaldi. It was just the sixth time with the rider. Super supple and top ride ability. Already licensed for OLD and will be presented for Danish Warmblood licensing in Herning.

3 year old NRW champion stallion Valverde by Vitalis / Ampere with Severo seems to bring the whole package - expression, power and movements - by all three gaits. Futhermore he also looks super strong in the body.

The 4-year-old For Emotion by Foundation / Sandro Hit was again shown the best way by Simone Pearce. Although he does not bring the most modern look, there is no doubt about both the qualities of his gaits including a top cool interior which of course provides optimum conditions for the rider.

The now 6 year old Don Deluxe by De Niro / Rosario was only shown at hand, since he last year suffered an injury and is still not back in full training.

Franklin by Ampere / Ferro who is now 7 years, is certainly growing up now. Lots of power, elastic and quality, and he has already proved his value for breeding with very well moving foals with natural power.

Best for the final

Last stallion was 4 year old Revolution by Rocky Lee / Rouletto. And here the boss, Andreas Helgstrand himself has changed clothes, and showed the long legged powerful stallion in a superb way. Pleasure watching the big stallion in both high and low gear without changing the quality of the gaits.

Must just say, by far stallion show of the year, in terms of the qualities of the stallions.
