Helgstrand is telling about his success at World Championships for Young Horses
Round up day 4: World Breeding Dressage Championships Ermelo
Press release
Don Martillo world champion of five-year-olds
This morning the final for five-year-olds took place. Both the qualifiers and the small final forecasted a dream final with lots of quality. The best 15 combinations earned a starting place in the final. Result:
1) Don Martillo (s.Don Juan de Hus) HANN and Ann-Christin Wienkamp (GER) – 9.74 points
2) Ferrari OLD (s.Faundation) OLDBG and Andreas Helgstrand (DEN) – 9.20 points
3) Hesselhoej Donkey Boy (s.Era Dancing Hit) DWB and Jan Møller Christensen (DEN) – 9.10 points
Two 10s for world champion Lordswood Dancing Diamond
Concluding the LONGINES FEI / WBFSH World Breeding Dressage Championships, the final for the six-year-old dressage horses took place this afternoon. This final was again an exciting one.
Result:
1) Lordwoods Dancing Diamond (s.Dancier) HANN and Ann-Kathrin Pohlmeier (GER) - 9.72 points
2) Governor-STR (s.Totilas) KWPN and Adelinde Cornelissen (NED) - 9.06 points
3) Quel Filou OLD (s.Quarterback) OLDBG and Severo Jurado Lopez (ESP) - 8.99 points
Dark President D&R retaliates in Stallions of the Year-Freestyle
The Stallions of the Year, a class for approved stallions at Small Tour-level, continued with a Freestyle to music in the main arena. Between the final of the five-year-olds and the six-year-olds, it was the charming Dark President D&R that made a stance by scoring the highest marks. In the classical test the Wynton-son obtained a second position, this time he went the extra mile and won the freestyle to music. The KWPN-stallion Everdale, yesterday’s victor, had to accept the second place.
See you next year!
The lap of honour by Lordswood Dancing Diamond concluded the second edition of the Longines FEI/WBFSH World Breeding Dressage Championships for Young Horses. Aat Both, chairman of the board: “We look back on a successful second edition of the Championships. This year we could enjoy excelling dressage talents once again.
Convincing GOLD medal for Loodswood Dancing Diamond in 6 yr old final (video)
It also became a very intereting final for the 6 yr old horses
Today´s winner Loodswood Dancing Diamond by Dancier / Wolkenstein II with Anne-Kathrin Pohlmeier showed top qualities in the final. As mentioned the other day this horse moves off the ground in every in step, no matter if it´s trot, walk or canter. And as an addition the overall picture of the horse just says GRAND PRIX. Looks like a horse with all the abilities and top rideable, also carrying his rider with lightness and effortless.
A dream for the top rider, and for sure any amateur would love the daily ride here too. 9.72 was fully deserved winner score for the 6 yr old final.
Adelinde and Governor TS were also well deserved with today´s silver medal. Easy going, in a natural closed frame, with super lightness of the movements and very correct technical test from Adelinde. Positive and relaxed young stallion enjoying all the clapping from the spectators, the way his father Totilas also enjoyed this attention. Scoring 9.06.
And then the DRAMA
At first hand Sir Skyfall OLD and Frederic Wandres were proclaimed bronze medal winners with 8.86, but during the price giving it became a reality that the deduction for Severo and Quel Filou doing wrong way at their test NOT brought them to a 6th place, but exactly brought them to the bronze medal spot.
As told from Team Helgstrand a young boy was catching up Severo and Quel Filou on their way to the stables telling them, that the scoring was WRONG.
Instead Quel Filou OLD and Severo Jurado Lopez won the bronze medal, without being honored at the price giving in front of all the fans. And for the both the team and Severo this final of the Championships became just weird.
The entire Helgstrand team and Severo are of course very sorry for Frederic Wandres, who had to give back the bronze medal at the subsequent press conference - very imbarrassing and regrettable situation for everyone.
Correct score for Quel Filou OLD and Severo Jurado Lopez - 8,99!

Medals for 5 yr old horses - GOLD GER/HANN, SILVER DEN/OLD and BRONZE DEN/DWB
Very exciting finals for today´s 5 yr old horses
Looked like super weather conditions from the start of the final today. High quality throughout the class with just a few combination which did not manage to show their best level for today´s final.
Mr. Hess did a fantastic job
The finals are just stepped up to a very very high level with German judge and commentator Mr. Christoph Hess. No matter what the outcome was from the combination, Mr. Hess always did his comments in a construtive and educational way, with the fact in mind that it is a young horse competition and everything can happen, even with an experienced rider.
Quote from Hess: "In the walk you have to be a passenger not a pilot", explained in the way that you as a rider must be able to be a part of the walk, not just stearing.
As Hess additionally told during his commentating, his judging colleagues also added with ex. "nice time in the air", explanation of the canter qualities from Henkie, and Sisters Act with "three good natural paces".
World Champion Don Martillo and Ann-Christin Wienkamp representing HANN - photo credit: Timo Martis
Effortless, obedient well managed test from German Ann-Christin Wienkamp with Hannoveraner stallion Don Martillo. But the scoreboard got very hot, as the spectator judging also saw the test at 9,22 and not 9,74. The last power from behind, and top expression was lacking for the 9.74 from H2R point of view.
Silver medal for Ferrari and Andreas Helgstrand representing OLD - photo credit: Timo Martis
Andreas Helgstrand is not just Europe´s most successful horsedealer, he is also both able to produce the horses himself, but for sure also very eager to enter the centerline with a top horse like Ferrari.
Very harmonius picture, the big stallion suits Helgstrand very well, and he manage for today´s final at ride with less pressure, which makes the overall picture very nice. Lots of expression for the trot tour with a lovely balance, good walk, and nice power in the canter. Silver medal a reality, when his own stable riders and worst competitors did not manage to do their tests without smaller issues. "When they can´t get the medals, I´ll bring a medal home myself", Helgstrand subsequent joked. And at the same time Andreas told how proud he was about the archivements from the entire team - "everyone at our team made this Championship successfull for our stable", Helgstrand told on his way back to Denmark.
Bronze medal for Hesselhøj Donkey Boy and Jan Møller Christensen representing DWB - photo credit: Timo Martis
Danish Warmblood stallion Hesselhøj Donkey Boy with Jan Møller Christensen showed themselves as true contenders for the medals from their performance at the preliminary test - easy light and effortless.
Could they keep the same spectacular level for the final - nearly. But unfortunately today with an error when doing the transition from walk to canter with error canter. And also with the transition canter / walk / canter, where Donkey Boy shows some tensions hind. Costly issues which for sure were the difference between silver and bronze today.
A lovely supple, happy, well moving and well prepared stallion which just proved his own qualities in the sport.
160.000 euros for German Champion filly by Bond / San Amour
Yesterday´s 2nd part of the HANN foal auction made a top price of 160.000 euros for the champion filly from German Champion show in Lienen. The filly was sold to Danish HP Horses.

Kirsten Brouwer (Netherlands) and Sultan des Paluds (s.Soliman de Hus) won silver, Anne Troensegaard (Denmark) and Kipling (s.Hofrat) bronze.
Final 6-year-olds true battle of studbooks
Right after the denouement of the five-year-olds today, it also became clear which 15 6-year-olds may start in tomorrow’s final. President of the jury Susanne Baarup was satisfied with the tests she saw today: “A lot of horses performed substantially better today. Especially the top three showed some high-quality tests today. They do not only absolutely deserve a place in the final, they truly have a chance to do well.”
Three five-year-old prospects earn ticket to final
This morning the small final of the five- and six-year-olds was ridden, in which the top 3 could earn a ticket to tomorrow’s final. Amongst the five-year-olds the three additional tickets for the final are awarded to three stallions: Atterupgaards Botticelli with Selina Solberg Vittinghus, Dragon Welt under Ida-Linn Lundholm and First-Step Valentin with Larissa Pauluis. The last one on the starting list, Danish stallion Botticello (Benneton Dream FRH x Caprimond) made the biggest impression on the judges and the spectators.
Everdale wins Stallions of the Year
Stallions of the Year, a class for approved stallions at Prix St. Georges level stood out in diversity. Out of nine contestants, eight nationalities, seven studbooks, the KWPN-stallion Everdale (s.Lord Leatherdale) was crowned champion.

World Champion 7 yr old horses - Danish Warmblood Fiontini with Severo Jurado Lopez (video)
Fiontini and Severo Jurado Lopez - photo credit: Timo Martis
Third time in a row - they made again
Even with two small issues non of the competitors could touch the already double World Champion Fiontini with spanish top rider Severo Jurado Lopez in the saddle. Power, balance, ability, strength, lightness, suppleness - all in one package.
Silver for Dutch Kirsten Brouwer with Sultan des Paluds, but from the "sideline" this silver should have been bronze. Lovely picture for the collected trot work, for the extension Sultan becomes very short in the frame and a bit hectic. Good walk, bit unbalanced zig-zag canter, 1st pirouette lack a bit more collection.
Second Danish combination on the podium
Another great Danish achievement is for Anne Troensegaard and the trakehner gelding Kipling. Full power and balance for the entire trot tour, even Mr. Hess who was co-commentator at Clipmyhorse was nearly out of words. Super walk tour with nice relaxation and very good walk pirouettes. Lovely control for both canter pirouettes and not least Kipling showing huge ablility for collection and sit. As Anne was 3rd last to go the scoring showed that she a least won the bronze.
Lot of very nice comments during every single test from co-commentator at Clipmyhorse judge Christoph Hess. And for sure a comment Anne will appreciate from Hess, was when he said during the performance from Kirsten Brouwer, that Kirstens canter pirouettes was not at the same quality as pirouettes from "the Danish girl Anne" ;-).
Danish Blue Hors Zee Me Blue and Daniel Bachmann Andersen showed at very nice trot tour, good walk and today the canter becomes with some tensions. Placed no 5, and as Hess after announcement of the scores said - "9,0 for perspective mark seems a bit optimistic, when looking at the issues for the canter tour today".
Beautiful placement as no 9 for Danish Kristine Møller with Standing O´vation, coming to the final with a victory in the semi final.
Danish amateur rider Louise Lind with Jubi´s Tenaclty completes her World Championships as no 13 in the final - what an achievement.
Andreas Helgstrand and his well moving talented Springbank VH are still today struggling with some tensions. They are placed as no 14.

Semi finals for 5 yr old and 6 yr old today with well deserved top 3 combinations
Relaxation was the keyword for today´s winner of 5 yr old semi final
5 yr old with Danish Warmblood stallion Atterupgaards Botticelli and Selina Solberg Vittinghus going into the semi final with a placement as 29 for the preliminary round and a score of 7,52, and finishes today´s semi final in top with 9,1 - what an improvement. But from the sideline also a very different horse from day 1 till day 2.
Also qualified for the final is Swedish Dragon Welt with Ida-Linn Lundholm, fully deserved. Dragon Welt is from H2R opinion a true "classic" horse. Classic look, classic moving and additionally the rider also present the horse in a very classic way.
3rd and and also for the final was First Step Valentin by Vitalis / Fidermark (same blood combination as last years 5 yr World Champion Victoria´s Secret) presented by Belgium rider Larissa Pauluis - smooth and easy.
Happy winners - breeder, owner and groom Kristine Munch Sinding and rider Selina Solberg Vittinghus of Atterupgaards Botticelli. Privat photo.
6 yr old semi final with excitement until last combination, and "less is more"
Germany´s Claudia Rüscher had her Baccardi much better under her aides for today´s semi final and secured herself an important ticket for the final.
Shared no 2 was Danish Warmblood Ellegaardens San Droneur with Jacob Nørby Sørensen in the saddle. Again today with an expressive forward going and uncomplicated test. San Droneur is a horse with top qualities, also in the perspective for the future, and as judge Christoph Hess said when commentating about the scoring, "the rider can trust the horse a bit more during the test - less is more". Hess wanted Jacob to do a bit less during his test, as the horse in itself showed high qualities.
Great Lady TC with Dutch Jeanine Nieuwenhuis, showed an easy effortless test. Great Lady is supple and obedient. Also well deserved for the final.
Unfortunately no final for Danish Kenneth Damgaard with his two well moving 5 yr old horses, Højgaardens Santos and Stenager Wyatt Earp. Well presented and happy horses showed in good form both for preliminary and semi finals.

Round up day 2: World Breeding Dressage Championships Ermelo
Press release
Championship 5-year-olds: “The battle is not over yet!”
Today the program of the Longines FEI/WBFSH World Breeding Dressage Championships for Young Horses continued with the second qualification for the five-year-olds. Similar to yesterday, the crowd could enjoy incredibly high-quality horses in the youngest age category. The top 3 of yesterday got competition from some seriously talented horses.
Qualifications 6-year-olds promises exciting finals
The intermediate ranking of the six-year-olds has a new leader: Feodoro with Simone Pearce. The Hannoverian Furstenball-son scored the first 10 of the six-year-olds today. His Australian rider is in the fourth position in the category for 5-year-olds with the Conen-descendant Casablanca (ds. Fidertanz) that also received a 10 for her powerful trot.
Participants final 7-year-olds established
The 15 participants in the final of the Longines FEI/WBFSH World Breeding Dressage Championships for Young Horses are rounded up! Besides the 12 combinations that directly qualified themselves yesterday, today’s top 3 also earned a starting ticket.
Lynne Maas and Electra also supreme in Freestyle
Tonight’s program included the CDI1* Freestyle to music, featuring the best 10 combinations of the yesterday’s Prix St. George. In a predominantly Dutch competitors field, yesterday’s winner, Lynne Maas and her KWPN-mare Electra (Jazz x Ferro), with which she recently was crowned Dutch national champion of the Small Tour, proved to be invincible once again.
Finja wins CDI1* Intermediate I
This morning the Intermediate I at the Longines FEI World Breeding Dressage Championships for Young Horses was ridden. Robin van Lierop was not able to place himself for the final yesterday, but today he retaliated with his Finja (s.Flatley): with 71.009% he stayed ahead of all the other starts.
Auctioning on a world stage
Yesterday the presentation of the Excellent Dressage Sales took place. An enthusiastic crowd flocking to see it, watched the foals and riding horses show why they are part of the top collection of 2017.
Impressions from 2nd part of 6 yr old preliminary test
Another 10 for Australian Simone Pearce - this time with 6 yr old Feodoro
Feodoro and Simone Pearce (both smiling) - photo credit: Timo Martis
The 6 yr old Fürstenball / Rosario gelding was presented by Helgstrand Dressage rider Simone Pearce. Relaxed, expressive with super quality. Nice flow and well balanced with lovely lightness in the forehand. And walk after the book with the biggest points = well deserved clear 10! Active canter with good power and not least well nice big changes. 9,02 and just pushed her colleague Severo with Quel Filou down to 2nd place. (video below)
Feodoro and Simone Pearce - photo credit: Timo Martis
German Lordwood Dancing Diamond and Anne-Kathrin Pohlmeier delived an error free and easy looking test. Dancing Diamond is a horse which takes every step easy with lightness of the ground by all 3 gaits. Same score as Severo and Quel Filou - 8.98.
New direct into the final with her 2nd horse was Danish Carina Cassøe Krüth with Danish Warmblood silver medal mare Heiline´s Danciera. Active balanced trot tour, good walk and good canter with good quality changes brings the combination into 7th place. Today´s top score by submission with 9,0. Great achivement for the Danish rider bringing two horses for Ermelo, and both qualified direct for the final.
Missing at the list of direct into the final is Danish Ellegaardens San Droneur with Jacob Nørby Sørensen - hopefully they will get their well deserved ticket at tomorrow semi finals.

Direct into the final:
Impressions from 2nd part of 5 yr old preliminary test
The expectation were pretty high, especially if today´s 2nd part of the 5 yr old could be at same level as the top of the 1st part.
Danish imprint
Danish Warmblood stallion Hesselhøj Donkey Boy and Jan Møller Christensen, showed a smooth and easy test, without any tensions. Light footed trot, supple walk through the body with huge over track, huge canter with super jump of the ground and great ability to extend and collect. Today´s top score with 9,64.
The two other Danes today were Selina Solberg Vittinghus with Atterupgaards Botticelli and Kenneth Damgaard with Stenagers Wyatt Earp.
Botticelli looked stunning together with Selina for the trot tour, but you could immediately see that the beautiful stallion was bringing some tensions, because when they started their walk tour he was on his toes, and unfortunately this affected the entire canter tour with a lot of tensions. They will go for their 2nd chance through the semi final tomorrow.
Danish Kenneth Damgaard and Wyatt Earp showed a really nice test with good flow and nice form. Today the walk became a bit limited. They are also ready for the semi final tomorrow.
Stenagers Wyatt Earp / Kenneth Damgaard - photo credit: Timo Martis
Ones again Severo Jurado Lopez shows his experience
Today´s test with the stallion D´avie did not start quite as planed. At the entering halt D´avie think he better leave the arena and spins around, but Severo just tells him to stay, and from there Severo just show the way, and not least his huge experience as a rider. D´avie also gets big eyes at E, but ones again Severo is the guide. Might look easy, but for sure D´avie cannot benefit alone with his qualities from the great scoring of 9.14. The "pilot" in the saddle did the job!
Top presentation from Germans Dorothee Schneider and Stefanie Wolf
Both German ladies showed lovely tests with expression, relaxation and quality and placed as no 6 and no 7. But seen from the sideline they will not be able to further up in the final.
Direct ready for the final:
Danish Warmblood stallion Hesselhøj Donkey Boy was shining together with Jan Møller Christensen today
Nice being Danish in Ermelo, and even from the distance the qualities from the combinations shines.
Today´s absolute high-light by the 2nd part of the 5 yr old preliminary test was Danish Warmblood gold medal stallion Hesselhøj Donkey Boy by ERA Dancing Hit / Milan, bred by Dorthe and Hans Jørgen Hoeck, owned by Kristin Andresen and ridden by Jan Møller Christensen.
Not that easy going into the arena with the high scores from yesterday´s top combinations in mind, but for sure the plan from experienced rider Jan Møller Christensen and his team was already made before going to Ermelo.
H2R caught Jan for a small comment about the last preparations for Ermelo.
"I strive to ride as I usually ride the last few days before leaving, and is of course aware not to push him to much. Fortunately, Donkey Boy does not need much work, he is very easy to ride. He does not usually look at the surroundings (touch wood), but obviously he is stallion and he keeps an eye on what's happening around him.
I think it's a fantastic horse, and my expectations are initially to show him as good as possible, and then we'll see how far that wil bring us", Jan Møller Christensen told.
TROT 9.7 - WALK 9.8 - CANTER 9.5 - SUBMISSION 9.5 - PERSPECTIVE 9.7 = 9,64 made them direct into an overall 2nd position.
From H2R point of view they look like a gold medal for Sunday´s final.

Danish Kristine Møller (LUX) with Standing O´vation won 7 yr old semi final
News from Ermelo YH
The 15 participants in the final of the Longines FEI/WBFSH World Breeding Dressage Championships for Young Horses are rounded up! Besides the 12 combinations that directly qualified themselves yesterday, today’s top 3 also earned a starting ticket. Number 1 Kristine Moller and the Trakehner mare Standing O’vation (Imperio 3 x Consul) with 77.203%. Thus an invite to the final for the rider from Luxembourg. “This is so unexpected! Standing Ovation and I have never ridden a 3-day competition at this level. Yesterday it was windy weather and she got tense. She is quite a sensitive horse. As a matter of fact, I have not trained on the figures these last days, only focused on relaxation. Today she was sharp, but in the good way. In the beginning of the test I made a small mistake and that is when I thought: it is now or never, this is our last chance! So I went all out, we did all we could and clearly it worked!”
Also the Dutch riders Lynne Maas and Mara de Vries placed themselves in the final after a good performance with their KWPN-horses Fantastique (Vivaldi x Florencio II) (77.103% and Farzana G (Ampere x Florencio II) (76.577%). Lynne: “I am thrilled, Fantastique certainly deserves a spot in the final. On to Sunday!” President of the jury Maria Colliander agrees and was very satisfied with today: “I am very happy with the three horses that we added to the final today. The top 3 today truly deserves to be in the final, they were all lovely horses that are really well-presented.”
Preliminary 7 yr old test - with extraordinary Danish Warmblood Fiontini and Severo Jurado Lopez

Not so much to say - just:
And have a look at their test here.
Both Patrik van der Meer with President´s First Apple and Kirsten Brouwer with both Sultan des Paluds and Ferdeaux looks very sharp for the next spots.
But said that, they have to be aware of the German combination Senta Kirchhoff with L`Arbuste (Danish bred by Stud Firfod) by Skovens Rafael / Zardin Firfod, and the Danish combination Anne Troensegaard with Kipling - both with top horses, with small tensions for some exercises today. If they are settled down for the final the ladies and their horses with for sure go for a spot at the podium (no secret, but Danish Anne Troensegaard has already proclaimed that she will go for a Danish 2020 Olympic team spor with Kipling).

Danish Warmblood stallion Blue Hors Zee Me Blue and Daniel Bachmann Andersen had a few smaller issues today, with a lack of beat for the first diagonal, and lost balance in the first pirouette which both became a bit expensive. Placed no 8.
Daniel Bachmann Andersen and Blue Hors Zee Me Blue - photo credit: Timo Martis
Andreas Helgstrand and Springbank VH, representing Sweden had some lovely moments but it was clear that Springbank did not really settle in the huge arena today. Placed no 11.

She came last - but last with the attractive direct ticket for the final
The truth about young Danish combination Louise Lind and Jubi´s Tenacity is that they actually came out of the blue for the World Championships.
Louise Lind and Jubi´s Tenacity - photo credit: Timo Martis
After making a great debut at national S-level a friend of Louise asked her to sign in for the Danish selection, and there she went, with her sisters horse, as she was ment to ride Tenacity just when her sister was studying abroad.
Went to the first selection and went on for the final selection and got nominated for World Championships.
Now in Ermelo, and as humble as she is, she just told (at an interview at Hestemagasinet) about her experience being at Ermelo and just wishing she would not end up last. She got last, but last with the final ticket direct into the finals for the 7 yr old horses - what an achivement, for the young Danish amateur lady studying Law at the university in Denmark, beside riding her sisters horse.
Press release - day 1 at Longines FEI/WBFSH World Breeding Dressage Championships for Young Horses
Outstanding horses in first qualification round 5-year-olds
The program kicked off with the first qualification round for five-year-olds. 20 horses made their appearance in the arena, some of them left an outstanding impression. President of the jury Eddy de Wolff van Westerrode: “As a jury we are very pleased with the group of horses we saw today. Overall, it is noteworthy how well and professional the horses were presented.”
Top quality 6-year-olds
Just as there 5-year-old colleagues, the first part of the 6-year-old dressage horses entered the ring for their qualification round. Leading the intermediate rankings is Quel Filou, the Oldenburger Quarterback-son. Last year Quel Filou won the silver medal in Ermelo, at the time under the saddle of Sacha Schulz.
Fiontini right on track to hattrick
Two-fold World Breeding Dressage Champion Young Horses Fiontini is right on track to win the title once again and score – just as Sezuan did last year – perform a hattrick. The extremely talented daughter of Fassbinder out of a dam by Romanov impressed the jury with a fantastic performance. In an impeccable test the Danish Warmblood-mare scored under the Spanish rider Severo Jesus Jurado Lopez the following grades: 9.5 for the trot and canter, a 9 for the walk, a 9.3 for the submission and a 9.8 for perspective brought the total to an average of 94.200%. the 82.578% for the technique set the final score to 88.389, which meant the victory in the qualification round.
Electra (s.Jazz) wins CDI1* Prix St. Georges
Though the weather was not quite optimal in the CDI1* Prix St. Georges this morning, this formed no obstacle for the eight-year-old Electra (s.Jazz). Lynne Maas took home the gold last month at the Dutch National Championships in the Small Tour and lived up to the expectations she created there.
