De bedste to i 2. afdeling

79,280% CDI4 Grand Prix comeback for Showtime FRH and Dorothee Schneider (video)

Showtime.jpg

At 9.00 Dorothee Schneider and the 11 year old super horse Showtime FRH made a very impressive comeback today after 1 yr injury break.

Smooth and powerful trot tour as we know them, good walk tour where Dorothee for the first 5 meters at the beginning of the extended walk struggling a bit, as Showtime will not really take the forward search through the body towards the hand, but after the 5 meters he starts marching. Good canter tour with highlights of the pirouettes, one times with a small error in the mid, and throughout the canter tour Dorothee seems to encourage Showtime to keep he nose in front of the pole.

2nd became Ingrid Klimke yet again with an international Grand Prix debut, today with the expressive 9 yr old mare Geraldine. Smooth and effortless test in nice harmony, with good series and pirouettes, and where you just can wait for a bit more strength for the piaffe and passage tours.

News at Sweden International Horse Show

Double European bronze individually, European team silver and World Cup victory in front of the German superstar Isabell Werth. The 25-year-old Danish dressage rider Cathrine Dufour has had an amazing year. Now she is ready for the Saab Top 10 Dressage competition in Stockholm and Sweden International Horse Show.

”I’m really looking forward to riding in front of the Swedish audience again. They were absolutely crazy last year. It was the greatest experience ever for me at that time”, says Dufour.

With 14-year-old Atterupgaards Cassidy, Cathrine Dufour has taken the dressage world by storm. She is currently ranked number five in the world and was hugely successful at the European Championship in Gothenburg.

In Denmark, Cathrine is nominated as “Sports person of the year”, the country’s finest sports prize, among candidates such as tennis player Caroline Wozniacki, soccer player Christian Eriksen and the national soccer team ladies.

”It has been an incredible year,” says Dufour, who believes that Sweden International Horse Show played an important role in her carreer.

“Stockholm last year really was the show that was the beginning of entering the next level. Before that I had some problems with the indoor shows because Cassidy got scared. But despite the tense atmosphere in Friends Arena we did really good. That was a boost of self-confidence for us.”

When winning the World Cup at home in Herning in October, Dufour and Cassidy scored personal best at 85,945 percent and beat legend, world number one and Euro-Gold Medallist Isabell Werth.

“It was really special. First of all, to win at home. But also the fact that we were good enough to beat Isabell. We have been so close several times, and now it finally happened, says Dufour, and continues:

”I passed Isabell on my way out from the arena and she said ‘well done, it’s fair sport’. I was over the moon that day.”

After Herning, Cassidy has had a calmer period. Saab Top 10 will be the next show and Dufour hopes she’ll be able to give the German dressage queen a tough competition again.

”But it depends, of course, on which horse she’ll bring. Weihegold is almost impossible to beat and Emilio seems to be in a really good shape right now”, Dufour says, thinking of Werth’s and Emilio’s World Cup victory in Lyon last week.

In total, the riders compete for more than 158 000 €, plus a Volkswagen car, in the Saab Top 10 Dressage. An unusually high price within the dressage world.

”It’s amazing with the sponsor that makes this contribution to the sport,” says Dufour.

She hopes to be in the top when the prize money is distributed.

”I would use the money to buy a new horse. It’s important for me to find a new Cassidy if I want to stay in the top sport, and of course I want to do that.”

Forbundet igen uden elitechef

Small video teasers for the upcoming Van Olst Sales 19 November

Superb opportunity to buy your future top star

Den Hout – On Friday 19 November 2017 Van Olst Horses will be organising their own auction – “Van Olst Sales”

This auction will include 2,5 year old, unridden dressage geldings and mares from well know dressage lines.

Extensive information on each horse, from a foal, is available on all the auction horses – which we believe makes the Van Olst Sales a unique opportunity for riders and owners to purchase a good and promising horse for the future.

H2R favorites:

Escamillo is really a dream come true (you might remember the bay top mover by Escolar at HANN licensing)

When watching the recent HANN stallion licensing one of the most attractive young stallions was catalog no 56 by Escolar / Rohdiamant, and like some of the other very attractive stallions he was not offered for sale, but he was not owned by one of the big German stallion stations.

From H2R point of view it became quite interesting to find out more about his story, and therefore H2R contacted the owner of this special boy named Escamillo, American Kimberly Davies to make her tell the story from being an entusiastic breeder buying a colt with her dream bloodlines, and then making it all happen during this years HANN stallion licensing.

Who is Kimberly Davies and what´s her background?

"My mother and grandmother always had a special place in their lives for horses. Neither rode competitively, but rode ponies as kids for fun. My mother always wanted her children to be involved in some type of sport, and my sister and I both took a liking to horses. We grew up riding backyard ponies and then ex-racehorse thoroughbreds in the pony club (United States Pony Club). We kept our horses our own small farm and always did the work ourselves.  I always had a passion for dressage but as we were riding ex- racehorses, we focused on eventing. I competed through the Preliminary level of eventing in the USA and graduated from the United States Pony Club with my HA rating.

I continued to ride throughout my time at college (university) where I rode young horses for the jumping trainers in exchange for reduced board. During college, I purchased my first warmblood for $5000 on a payment plan - a 10 year old Westfalen mare by Polydor that had competed in jumping and I turned her into my dressage horse. Now that I had a warmblood, I started to follow the German breeding, stallion licensings, mare shows, read every book I could find. The feeling of riding a warmblood bred specially bred to be a riding sport horse is unlike any other. This is when I realized I wanted to breed and ride these horses.

My first foal was born in 2007 from the Polydor mare (and by the Holsteiner Ariadus)  and is a successful eventing horse in the USA with his amateur owner.  My husband and I named him Ariston which then became the name of our farm - Ariston Farm. Ariston means excellence which is what we are striving for", tells Kimberly.

Breeding 2-5 foal each year and active competition rider

"Since then, I've slowly purchased mares and foals from breeders in Germany, Holland, Canada and the USA to build up a small breeding program. We breed 2-5 foals a year at our farm. I am very hands on - I personally foal out the mares in the US myself which I find so exciting (albeit exhausting as you know). I also start the youngsters in the US under saddle myself and with a helper. My current PSG horse Sigur Ros (Sandro Hit x Brentano x Hill Hawk xx) was started under saddle and trained by myself. My coach and FEI judge Gabriel Armando comes to my farm to coach me once a week. Sigur Ros and I are still green at PSG but she has a lot of potential. I hope to have 3 horses competing PSG in 2018.

Our philosophy is all about the horses. We want the best for the horses - to best prepare them for success in sport, to be healthy and happy and for their longevity. We, of course, sell horses to become profitable and provide services such as raising and starting young horses for clients," says Kimberly.

The German connections

"Back in 2010 I met the Lenzen family when I purchased the broodmare SPS Royal Nature (Royal Hit x Fidermark) from them and kept her in Germany with the Lenzen's to foal out. The Lenzen family are the breeders of Ehrentusch, Roman Nature, De Beers, the champion mare Romanika (full sister to Roman Nature) and the 2nd placed 4 year old Bundeschampionat horse this year named Flawless Diamond. My broodmare and most of Lenzen horses are from the mare line that is the same as Florestan, Woodlander Farouche and the GP horse Favorit ridden by Sönke Rothenberger.

Theo Lenzen introduced me to Iris Jansen, of Reitlanlage Rickhof, who starts his young horses under saddle. This turned into a super partnership because Iris is close to my age and speaks perfect English - and we got along well and shared the same taste in horses."

In love with the bloodlines of Escamillo

"Back in 2015, Iris and I talked of finding some potential stallion prospects. We purchased Escamillo from the Wickrath foal auction and purchased 2 others directly from their breeders. Escamillo was bred by Carolin Langhorst of Gestuet Tenterhof (they also bred another 2017 Premium Hanoverian stallion by Danzador X Royal Highness).

I loved Escamillo's bloodlines (Escolar x Rohdiamant x De Niro x Landadel). Escolar was a really interesting stallion to me because of his power and bringing back some of this older E blood mixed with Fidermark (one of my favorite stallions of all time). And of course, Rohdiamant is one of the "greats" - this is blood that is important to keep in the horses - R line horses like to work and usually are super to deal with. Then add in De Niro - the ultimate in producing GP horses. I also love seeing the Landadel blood in there - going back to Ladykiller xx (another "great").  In addition, he had no S or Londonderry blood. Escamillo's mare line is the Cinderella mare line (same as Sir Heinrich, Candy OLD, Cindy OLD, Ashley Holzer's small tour horse Radondo by Romanov). Escamillo's mother's has 2 full brothers: one named Romanist is an approved stallion and a successful S level horse in Germany, and the other is Romeo Niro a successful Grand Prix horse. Escamillo had impressive movement with a natural cadence, expression and balance.  He always had a super character - happy and willing," adds Kimberly in the best horsy breeder nerd way.

Easy selection from the field

"He was reared with a small group of colts in large grass fields at the Lenzen Farm in Heinsberg. (They also have the most beautiful herd of dairy cows there!).

In early summer of 2017, we checked on the development of the colts. Escamillo looked great and moved with much power and expression - all 3 gaits were very impressive. The other colts also looked good, but one did not have enough stallion presence, and the other was just a bit too small," tells Kimberly.

The professional stallion eyes

"We showed him to Tobias Schult of Hengstation Schult who agreed to prepare him for the next few months and present him for the pre selections. Iris sent me a little video of him when he had been learning to lunge for 2 weeks - I was very impressed - a naturally gifted mover. During the pre-selection, he started to stand out even more - he was 1 of 2 stallions that received applause from the audience - and the audiences in Germany are well educated so this was quite a big deal!! Tobias said he was a stallion that he really liked working with so this was also very positive."

"During the licensing, Escamillo continued to stand out. His jumping is good - and again received applause from the audience. He was calm and impressive during the in hand presentation on the grass, and he "wow'ed" everyone with his lunging. I am so proud of him and the way he presented himself. Like the Hanoverian Verband said, he has "intelligence and charisma", tells a proud and humble Kimberly.

Kimberly Davies and Iris Jansen selfie during the HANN licensing

"Tobias did an excellent job preparing him and I cannot thank him enough. Also, huge thanks to Iris for always watching over him and being a big part of his development."

It was such an honor

"It was such an honor to have him at the Hanoverian stallion approvals. It was an amazing time - so much fun. I encourage everyone to attend if they can. The excitement of the Verband, the breeders, and the crowd over Escamillo was just a dream come true. I had tears in my eyes and goosebumps as everyone clapped for him.

I am so excited for his future - he will stand at Hengstation Schult this year, where he will be available for the breeder, and he will do his stallion performance test next year, and I hope he will continue to impress!

I hope that this inspires people to buy foals with bloodlines they love and hopefully make dreams come true! It was such a honor to attend the Hanoverian licensing and have Escamillo get Premium stallion and be one of the favorites!  It was amazing to meet all the different people - breeders, riders, the commissioners of the Verband. It was really a dream come true. I have other younger colts that I am also excited for, and I do hope one day to be able to present another stallion for licensing," finishes Kimberly Davies.

Happy owner with her Premium stallion - private photo.

Thank you very much to Kimberly Davies for telling her honest story with a lot of nerd spirit, and to her great way of developing the breeding abroad by using the huge experience from the European breeders and stallion owners. This is the way making progress breeding the future dressage horses all over the World.

OLD stallion licensing comes up 16 - 18 November (with full live streaming)

A collection of 39 young stallions are selected

From the video presentations there are just two stallions which caught some extra attention from H2R.

It is interesting to see the entire collection

Unfortunately the public does not have the possibility to watch all stallions, as the stallions which are not offered for sale are not shown with videos. Pity as some of them for sure also will be future stallions for breeding.

Note

For the upcoming NRW licensing all stallions are available with videos (including the stallions not for sale at the auction).

HANN riding horses auction comes up 11 November

No 10 by Totilas / Fürst Heinrich

No 10 by Totilas / Fürst Heinrich

From a look through the entire collection, the four horses below caught some extra attention.

No doubt the lovely Totilas / Fürst Heinrich son with no 10 will take the top price. Lovely self carriage, uphill tendency and supple mover in all three gaits.

No 68 by For Romance / Rohdiamant. Active of the ground - could be nice to see with less speed.

No 77 by Danone I / Weltgeist. Lovely up hill modern model, showing nice balance for the trot and good canter and walk.

No 89 by Vitalis / Levados. Nice active supple from behind. Looks like a very interesting horse for further education.

Remember you can follow the final presentation Wednesday 8 November at 17.00 via live stream.

German superstar and reigning series champion pins Spain’s Ferrer-Salat into runner-up spot; third-placed Swede, Patrik Kittel, holds strong lead on Western European League table

Where sport meets entertainment that’s where you find the world’s best Dressage riders and those two planets collided today to explosive effect at the second leg of the FEI World Cup™ Dressage 2017/2018 Western European League in Lyon, France where reigning champion, Germany’s Isabell Werth (47), came out on top. In a competition that built to a thrilling climax it was Spain’s Beatriz Ferrer-Salat who finished second ahead of Sweden’s Patrik Kittel in third while Werth’s compatriot, Dorothee Schneider, lined up fourth.

Werth had to settle for runner-up spot with Don Johnson at the first leg in Denmark two weeks ago, but today, partnering the 11-year-old gelding Emilio, she threw down an unbeatable mark of 86.115 percent when fifth-last to go of 15 starters from eight different countries.

"This was a personal-best score with Emilio and I’m so happy because he worked so well, he was really relaxed but with so much power that he gave me goosebumps!"

Isabell Werth (GER)

From the moment they danced into the arena the German duo had the audience completely spellbound. To a gloriously classical musical score they demonstrated dramatic changes of rhythm and pace, and it was captivating from the very start to the perfect final halt. It was no surprise when they were awarded three artistic scores over 90 percent including 92.800 from Judge at E, Vincenzo Truppa from Italy. All five members of the Ground Jury were in agreement as they put them in pole position, and as they left the arena the spectators rose to their feet to salute the lady whose medal-winning record in equestrian sport is second to none. But the excitement was far from over.

Ferrer-Salat’s Delgado put 82.630 on the board as the four-time Olympian and 2015 European silver medallist showed that her 16-year-old horse is coming right back on form after the injury-break that followed the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. And then Kittel set the arena alight with one of his trademark electrifying rides. This ultimate showman and his Olympic partner, the 13-year-old mare Deja, simply swung to the funky sounds of Stevie Wonder, all but willing the crowd to sing and clap to the strains of “Isn’t she lovely”, because Deja most certainly is. The wait for the judges marks was a tense one, but 81.555 wouldn’t threaten Werth’s domination and when fellow-German Dorothee Schneider and the elegant Sammy Davis Jr posted 80.315 for fourth place it was a done deal.

Werth was delighted with Emilio today. “He has become so much more confident, even in the warm-up he was focused and concentrated, he’s becoming more professional and improving all the time” she said. And now she plans to bring out her top ride, the brilliant mare Weihegold who helped her take the 2017 FEI World Cup™ Dressage title last March and triple-gold at the Longines FEI European Championships this summer, to the next leg of the Western European League which will take place on home turf in Stuttgart, Germany in two weeks’ time. Following that she will compete in Amsterdam, The Netherlands in January and she intends to campaign all three of her horses ahead of the series Final in Paris, France next April even though she is automatically qualified as defending champion.

Kittel meanwhile is sitting pretty at the top of the league table going into the next round with 54 points, a whopping 23 points ahead of second-placed Marcela Krinke Susmelj from Switzerland who finished seventh today with Smeyers Molberg. “I’m over the moon about being so far ahead!” Kittel said this evening. “And my goal is definitely Paris - it’s going to be awesome!” he added.

Result:

1. Emilio (Isabell Werth) GER 86.115

2. Delgado (Beatriz Ferrer-Salat) ESP 82.630

3. Deja (Patrik Kittel) SWE 81.555

Clear wins for top German riders today

GER.jpg

A German day

National Grand Prix win for Hubertus Schmidt with Imperio today at Nürnberg, like Schmidt also took the preliminary Prix Sct. Georg Special win with the 7 yr old mare Toscana by Bentley / Rubinstein I with 72,341%.

CDI4 at Oldenburg

CDI4 Grand Prix win for Jessica von Bredow-Werndl with Unee BB at Oldenburg. Very "easy" and obedient test without any technical issues scoring 76,560%. And again today Jessica and her Trakehner mare took the victory in the qualifier for Louisdor Preis final. Super light and expressive test with just an issue for the 1 times today, as Jessica subsequent explained as a kind of beginner nerves, as it was just the 2nd indoor competition for Dalera.

Placed second at the Louisdor qualifier was a well known horse namely this years trible European gold medal winner for Young Riders the 10 yr old gelding Carlos by Carabas / Weltmeyer ridden by Heiner Schiergen. After the ride Schiergen told that the main goal for this year of course was the Europeans with his Young rider Hannah Erbe. During last winter they were introducing Carlos to the Grand Prix exercises, but some month before the Europeans they just focused for that. Excited to follow the future steps of Carlos into the Grand Prix sport.

World Cup at Lyon

CDI-W freestyle win for Isabell Werth and Emilio showing a convincing test in Lyon today. Isabell was as usual top sharp and made clear distance to the other competitors today.

Beatrice Ferrer-Salat and Delgado were back on form and showed and effortless test. From H2R point of view Delgado just lacking some more suppleness in the body throughout the entire test.

Unfortunately Deja was not quite in the same piaffe mood today as for yesterday´s Grand Prix, but still a lovely test.

Awesome development of the piaffe for Deja in today´s World Cup Grand Prix from Lyon

Skærmbillede 2017-11-02 kl. 10.40.52.png

Few technical errors and high standard for today´s World Cup Grand Prix in Lyon

All in all a very close class today. 69% for the five lowest ranked combinations and 71% for the next four.

Seen from the buttom of the class it is a pity that French Pierre Volla and his chestnut mare Badinda Altena did not make it to the freestyle for tomorrow. An error free test with just a small issue at the beginning of his one times should have brought him into the freestyle, as his fellow countryman Ludovic Henry with After You did miss more lightness and selfcarriage throughout their test today.

Spanish Morgan Barbancon and her partner Sir Donnerhall II are getting there. Nice lightness and good balance for their test. Seems that they are developing a nice partnership in the arena, and Morgan knows where to ask for more and where she still has to wait for Sir Donnerhall. Smooth trot tour, with nice power extensions, good half passes, good passage, lack more activity for piaffe but nice obedient, superb walk tour, good canter tour where series and pirouettes still needs a bit more balance. Hopefully they will gain a lot more experience together during the next season, and then they will for sure be an active card for the Spanish team for the future.

D´Agostino and Fabienne Lütkemeier always shows their best. The 17 yr old gelding still seems to be very motivated going into the arena. And still super fit and expressive.

Cennin and Madeleine Witte-Vrees showed a strong test, but for more moments also very strong in the contact. Could be from that point that jugde at E Judet from France gave 71,7%!

Dorothee Schneider is a great rider, but today´s test was not quite a 75% test. Bit unbalanced for some moments, loosing the canter rhythmn with an error in the mid of the 2 times, and loosing the canter and balance bit out of 2nd pirouette.

Highlight of today

Highlight of today was without any doubt Kittel showing super development of the piaffes with his beautiful mare Deja. Today Kittel manage for all 3 piaffe tours to do the 12-15 piaffe steps. Nice transitions into the piaffe, but still with some tensions out, as it looks like Deja is not yet capable of using the smaller steps out. But the fact that the mare now looks much more balanced and comfortable for the exercise is just a huge achivement and development. Hat of for this kind of development in the top sport.

No "advertising" from FEI-tv about today´s live streaming

Unfortunately there was again some confusion about streaming or not streaming of today´s Grand Prix. Yesterday confirmed from Lyon organiser that there would be streaming, but unforturnately this was only available for the French viewers. And FEI-tv did not mention anything online about today´s streaming. So H2R did miss the first combination Beatrice Ferrer-Salat and Delgado doing their come-back after injury break from Beatrice, scoring 76,08% with a placement as no 3.

It always interesting to follow which new horses the international top riders bring up.

This time Dorothee Schneider shows the 9 yr old gelding Faustus by Falsterbo / Forrest xx.

Back in February Dorothee showed Faustus for the first time at Inter II national level, winning at Ankumer Dressur club, and last year she presented Faustus for the first time public at Global Dressage Forum together with Johnny Hilberath, for a Young Horse session.

Dorothee and Faustus are qualified for Louisdor Preis final taking place at international event in Frankfurt mid December.
