World Cup leg in Salzburg for Dorothee Schneider and Sammy Davis Jr.

Skærmbillede 2017-12-10 kl. 13.00.12.png

Making their international debut at CDI3 in Herning this year in March, and now winning their first World Cup qualifier is quite an achivement for experienced Dorothee Schneider with the 11-yr old gelding Sammy Davis Jr. This weekend with personal best in both Grand Prix and today´s freestyle tells all about their form and progress.

Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and Unee BB were showing their technical very strong test in a good way. Like yesterday Unee did not really look as if he was top motivated, but still doing his job with good qualities.

New at the World Cup podium today was Danish Daniel Bachmann Andersen with Blue Hors Zack. They are getting more and more experience together in the arena, and at the same time Zack is getting stronger. Also a personal best weekend for Daniel and Zack in both Grand Prix and Grand Prix freestyle. Showing this form at the end of the year is hopefully a very good sign for the next season, as the Danish team for next years WEG in Tryon will presumably be without Anna Kasprzak as she is expecting her first child in the spring. But for sure more "new" Danish combinations will be ready for the next season.

Fabienne Lütkemeier and Fabregaz were also showing top form today with a technical solid test, Highlights were passage and piaffe tours and nice canter pirouettes. As Fabregas is still very young at this level and today with his just 2nd World Cup freestyle ever, the degree of difficulty is still not that high.

Strong error free test from today´s no 5 Danish Agnete Kirk Thinggaard and Jojo AZ. When it all comes together like today, you can just lean back and enjoy this freestyle.

Super World Cup Grand Prix victory for Germany´s Dorothee Schneider with Sammy Davis Jr (video of the entire class)

Skærmbillede 2017-12-09 kl. 10.19.43.png

Super sharp and motivated combination Dorothee Schneider and Sammy Davis Jr for today´s World Cup Grand Prix in Salzburg. This year Dorothee seems to bring her success from last year with Showtime where she won both the Grand Prix and the freestyle. She looks like a very strong card for tomorrows victory again.

Today Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and Unee BB were doing a solid test, but seen from the sideline Unee was a bit in the stallion mode today, where Jessica really had to ask for every single exercise.

Placed 4th today was Fabienne Lütkemeier with her next top horse Fabregaz. It is clear that Fabregaz still lacking some more experience, but at the same time Fabienne is a master in showing the highlights with lovely qualities.

The Danes

Placed at the "podium" was Danish Daniel Bachmann Andersen with the 13 year old KWPN stallion Blue Hors Zack. This combination has really step into the international scene lately, as they have gained both experience and as wll Zack is getting stronger and more confident doing the piaffe and passage tours. Just one single issue during the 15 one times today.

Agnete Kirk Thinggaard and her long time partner finishes as no 5 today. Showing a very nice test with good expression and power, but unfortunately error for both the two times and the one times kept them away from a higher placement today.

H2R comments about top 5 from today´s class:

Sammy Davis jr GER - nice halt bit tense out, nice extended trot at diagonal, active supple half passes, good halt for rein back, bit tense rein back, active expressive 1st piaffe/passage with nice smooth transitions, bit tense extended walk, good collected walk, nice transition to passage, super nice 2nd piaffe/passage, good transition to canter, nice 2 times, tense bit unbalanced small error zig-zag, good 1 times, 1st pirouette bit hind aides bit spin, 2nd pirouette becomes bit too big, very nice active final centerline.

Blue Hors Zack DEN - good halt and forward, expressive extended trot, good balance activity for half passes, not square halt for rein back, good rein back, need to be bit more sharp into 1st passage, bit early 1st piaffe with good activity and nice transition to passage, good walk, transition to passage lack clear flow, good 2nd piaffe stays nicely on the spot could show bit more activity, super 2 times covering lots of ground, good extended trot, bit unbalanced zig-zag, some tensions for 1 times, good quality of pirouettes but lack bit more control becomes bit hurried, good passage, final pi becomes bit forward.

Impressive arena for CDI5 dressage in Geneva

Isabell Werth and Don Johnson took another "easy" victory today in Geneva, while Bernadette Brune showed her Spirit of the Age in the best form ever. Easy obedient test with very nice qualities and today´s result was also personal best for the combination.

A small error in the beginning of the test for Patrik Kittel and the light footed Well done de la Roche breaking into canter at the mid of the first extended trot. The rest of the test was well balance, a bit concervative and for a few moments bit behind the verticle. Lovely light over all expression.

Today´s no 5 was Swedish Anna Blomgren Rogers with the lovely power mare Tørveslettens Quattro. They were showing an expressive test with lovely piaffe/passage transitions clear rhythm with lots of suspension, and not least without any technical issues. A super debut at CDI5 level and they are still very green at international level, but for sure an attractive combination for the new season. Anna and Quattro made their international debut earlier this year when training for Anne van Olst, but has recently started training for Patrik Kittel, as Anna and her husband Will Rogers has moved to Germany.

Press Release - Isabell Werth first champion of Saab Top 10 Dressage

The very first champion of Saab Top 10 Dressage has been crowned. It is Isabell Werth (GER) with Emilio 107 on 86,875%. Runner up is Sweden’s Patrik Kittel and his mare Deja on 83,000% and in third place Helen Langehanenberg (GER) and Damsey FRH on 82,665%.

Helen Langehanenberg is riding 15-year-old Damsey FRH, a horse she has only had since 2016. The horse has, despite his age, developed a lot the past year and during the program he is light in his movements, calm, secure and safe. Langehanenberg pulls off a really nice show with a refreshing test for the audience. With a personal best of 82,665% she really sets the pressure of the three riders left in the final.

- I am super happy with my test, Damsey was so fresh but relaxed today, when we entered the arena he just wanted to do this, says Helen Langehanenberg and continues:

- I don’t know what I could have done better. I’m ending up third today, I hadn’t really expect that. I love doing the freestyle and the horse was just perfect! I’m going home very happy after today's show and will go to sleep with a smile tonight!

Isabell Werth, with 11-year-old Emilio 107, went into the arena directly after Helen’s super test. Isabell and Emilio gave the audience and judges a very relaxed impression – well balanced in the extensions and easy back in collections. Emilio is still a young horse but has the advantage of having a champion in the saddle. With a fantastic show they also pulls off a personal best together with 86,875%.

- I am really proud and it’s an honor to be the very first champion of Saab Top 10 Dressage. We, as riders, are so happy that we in Saab found a sponsor that supports us in this final, the whole package is perfect!

- The way Emilio did it today was perfect, it's not easy to warm up here, there is a lot to see and hear. I'm very happy with this weekend. It’s something special with this audience here in Stockholm, they have the exact feeling of when they can clap or not and this gave us just a super finish, says Isabell Werth.

She continues:

- There are many challenges in our program between collection and extension, for example from extended canter back to pirouette.

Patrik Kittel and Deja, a 13-year-old Swedish warmblood, was just on fire today! Deja was super easy and light, well in balance and there was so much harmony between the two during the test. The two finished at 83,000%, also a personal best for this equipage.

- Deja is a very soft horse with a heart of gold. For me today it was so much power in everything, from audience, to judges, horses and riders, says Patrik Kittel.

- Deja did some really good piaffes in the ring today; the test was just flowing for us.

-The coolest thing for me was that when you work with something for a very long time and it comes out like this, like all I have been hoping for... It is really a very good day at the office! says Kittel.

During the competition a world record was set in spectator judging. Over 900 people in the audience used the app where you can do your own judging of the riders.

- The audience here at Sweden International Horse Show is really interested in the sport and has a high knowledge. It is quite close between the spectator’s scores and the judges'. I think that is a good way to interact with the people in the arena and is something we have to work more with in the future, says Kittel.

Prize money distributed, Grand Prix Freestyle: 148 000 €

Breakdown: 45 000, 30 000, 20 000, 15 000, 10 000, 8 000, 5 000, 5 000, 5 000, 5 000

A great final for Saab Top 10 dressage today in Stockholm - the "queen" took it all

Skærmbillede 2017-12-03 kl. 12.40.46.png

No one could beat the "Queen" today

Even with the best wibes for Danish super combination Cathrine Dufour and Atterupgaards Cassidy the task was just not possible today.

Think the judging became a little harsh to Danish Anna Zibrandtsen and Arlando, as they delivered a clearly much more relaxed and expressive test today than for the Grand Prix and the same fact for Spain´s Severo Jurado Lopez with Deep Impact - both were clearly seen in front of Mister X. And at the same time the local Tinne Vilhelmson Silfvén was not seen up for a finishing spot as no 5!

Werth went in and did what she is a pure master at - WINNING

From yesterdays performance one might get the feeling of not 120% on form, but still with a win, and then going into a new day with a new competition just doing her stuff - this is just something extraordinary.

H2R comments on every ride today:

No 1 - Emilio GER - Werth just have the “killer look 👀 “ top focused and balanced test. Mrs Werth does never give any victory away 👑👑👑 big smile for final piaffe pirouette and applauding audience. She will be hard to beat 86,875%

No 2 - Deja SWE - nice start good 1st piaffe, smooth supple expressive trot tour and “isn’t she lovely” just underlines this freestyle. Piaffe tours clearly suits Deja much better today, becomes bit low in the frame for two times, good pirouettes, nice one times, wow transition direct in music at letter back into trot. Strong final passage lines. 83,00%

No 3 - Damsey FRH GER - smooth start volte passage to piaffe, super supple in his body with lovely contact. Keeps the suspension/energy for piaffe turn, power supple extended walk, super collected walk, power canter tour with top control. For sure this is the new leader👌🏻top test 82,665%

No 4 - Atterupgaards Cassidy DEN - strong starts with her stamp of double pirouettes and series, expressive extended trot, loose a bit energy for piaffe turn but stays in rhythm, collected and extended walk top quality, super smooth and active test with lovely expression 82,100%

No 5 - 1st to go Paridon Magi SWE - clearly much more flow and harmony for today’s freestyle, high degree of difficulty, nice transitions in music 78,775%

No 6 - Dante Weltino OLD SWE - graciously smooth light contact and very well managed between forward power and collected exercises. They really look like they are enjoying their Sunday performance. Unfortunately error double pirouette towards the end where Dante loose the balance. Swedish Top ⭐️ ⭐️ 78,690%

No 7 - Mister x RUS - now you have to be in Russian mood with Russian music. Lack in general of lightness in the hand often kind of hanging in the reins. Highlights in piaffe and passage. 77,590%

No 8 - Deep Impact ESP - super power start, well balanced test with lovely transitions for exercises and music, small issue as Severo was about to loose his top hat 🎩 - he continued with a smile. Very satisfied with a smooth test. 76,800%

No 9 - Arlando DEN - this is freestyle mood this music suits 👌🏻. More freedom and relaxation today from Arlando. Lovely expressive passage / piaffe tours. Error for 1st serie two times becomes bit mixed up, nice one times, super balanced pirouettes, super two times for her spare line. 75,590%

No 10 - Zuidenwind SWE - strong start with one times direct at centerline. Error two times line, still unsteady open mouth today but less than for GP, spare line good. Bit high neck in 1st piaffe, nice balanced half passes, piaffe pirouettes direct into extended trot makes a good impression. 75,200%

Press Release - Isabell Werth wins first part of Saab Top 10 Dressage

Skærmbillede 2017-12-02 kl. 22.31.47.png

Saab Top 10 Dressage is a new exclusive competition for the best dressage riders in the world and today saw the first part of the final at Sweden International Horse Show in Stockholm.

The best riders in the world are invited to Saab Top 10 Dressage: The top 8 riders as of FEI World Ranking 30th of September, of which 1 has to be best ranked Swedish regardless of his/her place, and two Wild Cards. Mastermind behind the concept is Swedish rider Patrik Kittel.

The strong starting field of today's competition included Isabell Werth and Helen Langehanenberg (GER), Cathrine Dufour and Anna Zibrandtsen (DEN), Inessa Merkulova (RUS), Severo Jurado Lopez (ESP) and not less than four Swedish riders on home soil – Rose Mathisen, Tinne Vilhelmson Silfvén, Patrik Kittel and Therese Nilshagen.

Winner of today's Grand Prix was Isabell Werth and her 11-year-old gelding Emilio 107 with 79,700%. Catherine Dufour and Atterupgaards Cassidy were close on second place and 79,300%.

- It’s always good to come to Sweden, the Swedes have an emotion for the equestrian sport, and the atmosphere in the arena is superb! Over all the conditions are perfect here at Sweden International Horse Show, from the stable to the amazing arena with the huge screen. The warm up was a little bit too long for Emilio and me; I couldn’t really keep up his energy. But I am really happy with him as he is not so experienced. This will be a great fight tomorrow between Catherine, and me, says Isabell Werth after the competition.

- Emilio is a special horse, as a youngster no one had a good solution for him. He has improved a lot in the body the last 10-15 months, I can be really happy with him. Today he was on, but focused, he has no problems with the atmosphere and is not spooky at all, and that’s good, Isabell continues.

Isabell had some small mistakes in both the transition between the collected walk and passage, and also in the flying change.

Second placed Catherine Dufour was happy being back at Sweden International Horse Show.

- This show is amazing! The stable is so silent and the arena is fantastic. It doesn’t matter that this is not my home crowd; the audience is with us anyway.

- Cassidy is not an easy horse indoor. We had a little mistake in the zig-zag, one change that was not clear, and that was the chance I gave to Isabell to win today, says Catherine Dufour, and continues:

- It's fantastic with this competition – it’s really racing the standards for all other organizers. When I got the question from Patrik (Kittel) to participate, I was just all in! This is a top show and I wouldn’t want to miss it.

Third place on home soil went to Therese Nilshagen and lovely 10-year-old stallion Dante Weltino OLD.

- It was a nice feeling to ride for the home crowd here in Stockholm, my first time! This was the first big indoor competition for Dante, and I was not sure how he was going to handle the atmosphere, says Therese Nilshagen and continues: Tomorrow I will try my best, be focused and do as good as possible.

Therese and Dante had an amazing start with 9-10 on the extended trot and ended up at 77,980%, a personal best for the two.

Isabell Werth praised Saab for making the Top 10 final possible.

- We were dreaming about this for a long time, and I’m really happy and thankful to Saab that we get the support to make this show possible. It is the duty of all of us to come here and give something back and to show this great sport.

Saab Top 10 Dressage continues tomorrow Sunday with the Grand Prix kür.

Isabell Werth kept Cathrine Dufour behind with just 0,4% today

Impressive arena with a lot of spectators for today´s Saab Top 10 Grand Prix at Sweden International Horse Show

Impressive arena with a lot of spectators for today´s Saab Top 10 Grand Prix at Sweden International Horse Show

Saab Top 10 became as expected a very sharp competition with lots of lovely sport

Very close between 1 and 2, Werth and Dufour today, and very unusual both had minor errors during their tests today.

For Werth it looked like a not 100% fokused test today, as those small glips with lack of flow for transition to passage from collected walk, and an unmotivated error in the mid of the one times were way out of her (their) usual safe power tests.

For Dufour it more looked like "bad luck" with her small issue for the zig-zag canter. And today lacking a 100% steady halt for rein back, and a tiny lack of energy for the 2nd piaffe kept her away for the top of the podium. Improved were the half passes with clearly more bend and Cathrine manage very well to show the exercise in a well balanced tempo. All the extensions were spot on from letter to letter with maximum power and expression. And still not any clear 10´s for the extended walk just 2 x 9 and  1 x 8 and 2 x 7,5, and again a clear active collected walk tour just scoring 8 - 7 - 8 - 7.5 - 7.5.

Danish not "colored" glasses

From H2R point of view Cathrine and Cassidy do have the possibility to nail it all tomorrow, but that means an error free freestyle with maximum risk which could bring her in front of Werth, and as the freestyle itself counting double for the "total accounting" Dufour could be the one bringing the extra special price a VW Tiguan back to Denmark.

Just 0,220% between Nilshagen and Langehanenberg

Dante Weiltino OLD and Therese Nilshagen was on fire for today´s test. It was their first outing since the Europeans and they did not disappoint their come crowd - huge applauding from the audience for the final meters. Dante looks even stronger now, which you clearly can see from the more uphill trend for the series.

Damsey FRH and Helen Langehanenberg is showing an effortless test in a beautiful frame, and again this extended walk is just worth a clear 10, like the collected walk is active with really nice qualities.

See the entire results here.

For sure it´s gonna be an exciting freestyle tomorrow.

H2R comments during the test:

Damsey FRH GER - super halt, good extended trot slight concervative, good half passes, super passage expression, super transitions bit forward piaffe but active flow, lovely extended walk just 3 x 9! Super transition at M for passage, good flow 2nd pi/pa, big series, bit cautious extended canter, good zig-zag, well managed pirouettes slight big but super quality. Very nice final centerline bit open halt.

Attterupgaards Cassidy DEN - super halt, expressive power supple extension, well balanced half passes, bit tense halt for rein back, nice 1st piaffe 2 x 9, extended walk with superb over track 9 x 2, small tension 2nd piaffe bit lack balance at start, superb 2 times, small error zig-zag, good pirouettes 2nd with a 10! Supple super extended trot, strong final. 79,3%

Emilio GER - expressive extended trot, nice crossing half passes, 2nd bit high tempo, super passage, 1 x 10 1st piaffe active, good walk, small error from collected walk to passage, good 2nd piaffe. Strong canter tour, small error mid of 1 times. Well balanced pirouettes, 1 x 10 for final passage, open final halt. 79,7%

Zuidenwind SWE - overall very solid test, but unfortunately a very unsteady open mouth all the way today. Good balance for trot tour nice supple half passes, not steady halt for rein back, good piaffe and passage nice flow, good series, need more collection into both pirouettes, good final piaffe but lack the final meters for passage. 73,760%

Mister X RUS - general impression lacking more self carriage and lightness on the bridle. Lack bend in half pass to right better to left, good piaffe and passage including trasitions, bit swing 2 times, small tensions change after extended canter, unbalanced zig-zag, much sit for 1st pirouette but bit stocked, better 2nd pirouette, lacking final meters for passage rider struggling to keep the horse straight forward towards final halt. 74,760%

Deep Impact ESP - wow power extensions for all 3 times! More times 9! Good flow for half passes, nice piaffe and passage, but Severo you don´t have to check the quality in the shadow ;-), good walk, attacking forward series, small lack of impuls for 2nd piaffe, small tension into canter, small trot step into 1st pirouette, 2nd pirouette nice, late transition at M, start early for final piaffe and very much forward. 73,720%

Paridon Magi SWE - collecting most of her point from the canter tour. Lack in general bit more lightness in the hand and sometimes with a bit open mouth. Tongue slight visual for 1st extended trot, piaffe bit high neck, half passes lack more flow, open and rest back for halt rein back. Solid canter tour bit big 1st pirouette 2nd better. 74,980%

Deja SWE - smooth expressive extended trot 1 x 10, nice crossing half passes, good halt but small tension rein back, 1st piaffe lack more balance few steps and lack clear transition out, good walk tour, 2nd piaffe much better, very solid canter tour with very nice qualities and good balance. Power extensions at final and good final centerline. 74,920%

Dante Weltino OLD - fire on the ground test. Sometime Therese was a bit too early, entering halt, halt at C and final piaffe. Super supple expressive extended trot, supple half passes, bit tense rein back, bit hurried extended walk, super collected walk, nice series better uphill frame now, smooth extended canter. superb pirouettes, very easy final centerline - applauding final. 77,940%

Arlando DEN - good start, smooth half passes, hurried rein back, good passage/piafffe/passage tours, small tension from collected walk into passage, good walk, nice series, error zig-zag while Arlando did not take the aides for one transition and Anna had to make transition to walk and start again. Rest of the canter tour was solid with very nice pirouettes. Good final where the piaffe becomes a bit forward. 70,7%

Today´s Champion of the winners for 5 year old and 6 year old horses was won by Swedish Jeanna Högberg with Astoria. They showed a very supple and harmonious test, but from the sideline Danish Jacob Nørby Sørensen, who is based at Gunnarlunda showed Amplemento as the winning horse.

Amplemento was showing great qualities all way, with a bit big eyes for the beginning, but Jacob managed very well. Nice balance and expression for the trot tour with good extensions. Good walk but could show a bit more over track and suppleness over the back, but still clear and active. Superb canter with lovely well prepared and executed flying quality changes.

Jacob also became 3rd with Danish Warmblood approved stallion Gammelenggaards Zappa. They showed their best test to date with good balance. Easy off the ground for the trot, nice relaxation in the walk with good over track. Good canter, could show a bit more collection into the transitions.

A great year for Jacob

It´s been a very busy and successful year for Danish Jacob Nørby Sørensen showing very nice horses from Gunnarlunda.

He has been active at a lot of young horse competitions including World Championships for Young Horses in Ermelo, and also been competiting at national Grand Prix level.
