Strongest ever 5 year old final at World Championship for Young Horses
When watching the entire final starting with the points at a very high level just might get the feeling that this was kind of over heating. But the field for this years final was actually at a level that we've never seen before.
It was very much about the "day" for each horse, as it was a really high quality field. The differences became the about the margins.
I was very interesting to see that it was not just the big stallions or the light-footed mares scoring, but common for the top was three top gaits, high ride ability and not least potential as future top horses.
It was of course both a relief and a huge achievement for Andreas Helgstrand winning his 3rd gold medal at World Championships for Young Horses. At the beginning of the finals he was at start with Zhaplin Langholt, and was eliminated due to a bit of blod in the mouth caused by a tiny slit in the lip, so coming in as last to go with Revolution knowing that he had to do his and absolute best to be crowned as the Champion just made an extra positive pressure for performing at his best together with Revolution. And they did not let each other down, result was clear from the judges.
The two expressive top mares Straight Horse Ascenzione and Atterupgaards Delorean did also impress the judging team with their lightless, expression and qualities. Victoria and Ascenzione showed a strong final while some tension crept in for Selina and Delorean today, but still with a special comment from co-commentator at Clipmyhorse, German top Young Horse judge Christoph Hess "world class horse".

Valparaiso, Brianna and Nexolia Feodoro ready for 7 year old final tomorrow
Yet another final spot for Danish based Australian rider Simone Pearce, this time with the 7 year old Nexolia Feodoro, as she also competed successfully at last years World Championship.
Unfortunately for Swedish Jacob Nørby Sørensen (representing DEN/Danish Warmblood) with Ellegaardens San Droneur they finished as 5th today.
For the other two Danish combinations Carina Cassøe Krüth with Red Diamant and Michael Søgaard with Jukebox the way over the small final did not really work out the way they have hoped for, as they were ending up as no 12 and no 20 today.

Listen to the judges comments for today's top 3 combinations:
Score: Trot 8.6 walk 8.9 canter 9.0 submission 8.8 perspective 9.0 Total = 8.86

A very long day with a lot of very nice combinations
40 combinations ready for the 6 year old test started this afternoon, and just 12 of them direct through to the final Sunday.
You might not agree with all individual scoring, but followed the entire test it is for sure the 12 correct combinations direct for the final.
Today's winner Villeneuve with Laura Stobel was not a wow test, but throughout a quality test.
2nd today Adelinde Cornelissen with Henkie showed a very nice test with good expression, the only thing which might be an issue for the final is the contact and the not very satisfied mouth from Henkie.
Severo and D´avie showed a strong test. D´avie is presented in a super frame alle the way, the only thing today was that the walk tour could have been show with a bit more suppleness and forward search. When Severo can manage this for final the podium is also secured.
Both German girls Stefanie Wolf and Dorothee Schneider are showing strong tests, but with advantage for Stefanie as her Matchball OLD is showing more expression all the way compared to Dorothees two mares.
Today's best flying changes were executed by Diederik van Silfhout with Habana, which also was reflected by the best score for submission 9,0 today.
Both Danes a last year at the podium, Jan Møller Christensen with Hesselhøj Donkey Boy and Andreas Helgstrand with Ferrari OLD show strong tests, and for both of them they still have more to show for the final.
Danish combinations for the small final tomorrow
Severo and Atterupgaards Botticelli are ready for the small final, like Stenagers Wyatt Earp and Kenneth Damgaard and Hevringholms Delaya with Susanne Barnow.
Botticelli, Total Hope and Hot Chokolade are H2R combinations for the final.
See the entire result here.
A pleasure to watch the power from the big stallion controlled with a strong seat and light aides from Charlotte Fry.
They came in 3rd in today's 7 year old qualifier scoring:
Trot 9,8 walk 7,5 canter 10 submission 9,6 perspective 10
Winner of 7 year old qualifier Fürsten-Look and Isabel Freese - photo credit: Lily Forado
The best young horses are for sure in Ermelo
From today's 7 year old qualifier it became a tribute to Fürstenball himself as a top producer of both winner and 2nd placed.
Both horses very well educated happy athletes, with both mindset and abilities for the job, and this definitely also includes today's no 3 Glamourdale with Van Olst Horses rider Charlotte Fry in the saddle.
Which one from today's top 3 will be the new World Champion is all about the current shape when entering the arena Sunday morning.
4th was Adelinde Cornelissen with the very obedient Governor str. and 5th was again a Van Olst Horses rider Franka Loos with Equilence´s Giovanni.
Heiline´s Danciera and Carina Cassøe Krüth - photo credit: Lily Forado
The small margin for today's victory went to Fürsten-Look and Freese, as from H2R point of view the most polished test was from Danciera and Cassøe Krüth.
H2R comments during the tests:
Fürsten-Look: Smooth supple trot tour, lovely half passes, bit big collected walk, big supple extended walk, small tension hind for 2nd half pass, nice sit/balance for 1st pirouette, error 2nd change for 4 times, lovely smooth frontlegs for pirouettes, just gives a great picture. Lovely test.
Heiline´s Danciera: Super halt, lovely swing and balance for the trot tour, supple, very nice relaxation for the walk, nice carriage for half passes, very nice control/balance for pirouette, nice half pass straight change at centerline, good serie, lovely sit/carriage for 2nd pirouette, superb test!
Other Danish combinations must go via the small final
Jacob Nørby Sørensen with Ellegaardens San Droner showed a technical clear test with smaller issues for the straightness of the changes.
Carina Cassøe Krüth was also at start with Red Diamant, and in general the judgement seemed a bit harsh, but the main point might have been the lack of clear contact collecting from the medium canter where Red Diamant becomes somewhat over the bit for a few step.
Michael Søgaard with Jukebox showed a technical clear test, but lacking bit more expression for the test in general.
Again Simone Pearce was very near going direct to the final, this time with Nexolia Feodoro, and they look like serious contenders for one of tomorrow's 3 spots for the final.
Both Flora and Goodman looks like candidates for the finals.
See the entire result here.
Danish Warmblood Straight Horse Ascenzione and Victoria E. Vallentin - photo credit: Lily Forado
Super performances from both Helgstrand Dressage girls
As H2R predicted after yesterday's 5 year old qualifier, today would be with more Danish Warmblood for the final.
Young Victoria Vallentin showed the elegant top mover Straight Horse Ascenzione by Zack / Schufro (full sister of Sezuan) in a lovely test.
H2R comments during the test:
Strong expressive super flow trot tour, small tensions for rein back, super walk tour with clear difference between medium walk and extended walk, bit conservative medium canter but understandable as she yesterday had an error, nice simple change, super transition to trot at K, lovely half circle. Nice contact and frame all the way.
Trot 9,4 walk 8,4 canter 8,7 submission 9,0 perspective 9,0 = 8,9
Danish Warmblood Lindballe´s Just Perfect with Simone Pearce - photo credit: Lily Forado
Lindballe´s Just Perfect by Johnson / De Niro and Simone Pearce also showed their best today.
Expressive trot in good balance (much better tempo today), bit resistance for rein back, marching walk tour, good transition to canter, good simpel change, nice balance for the canter, good transition for trot, nice stretching of the neck half volte.
Trot 8.7 walk 9.0 canter 8.8 submission 8.8 perspective 8.9 - total 8.84
Danish Warmblood Delizia and Anne Troensegaard - photo credit: Lily Forado
Unfortunately is was not the Championship for the Danish combination Fürstenball daughter Delizia with Anne Troensegaard. Too much tension and unbalanced tests.
Huge jump forward for Asgard´s Ibiza with Juliane Brunkhorst for today's victory
Sometimes mysteries happens at World Championships for Young Horses and Ibiza was one of them. Going into the semi final as no 8, being able to improve both walk and canter with 1,0 and 1,1.
Qualifier score: trot 9.2 walk 7.5 canter 8.2 submission 7.6 perspective 8.1 = total 8.12
Semi final score: trot 9.3 walk 8.5 canter 9.3 submission 8.7 perspective 9.0 = total 8.96
Instead H2R was missing the positive French combination Star de l'Ocean and Guillaume Recoing for the final, they finished as no 4.
Atterupgaards Delorean and Selina Solberg Vittinghus - photo credit: Lily Forado
It is not enough with top qualities the test MUST be clean to be able to receive top marks
That was became the fact for more combinations today. Both Danish combinations Straight Horse Ascenzione by Blue Hors Zack / Blue Hors Don Schufro with Victoria Vallentin and Atterupgaards Delorean by Bon Bravour / Sandro Hit with Selina Solberg Vittinghus showed great qualities but unfortunately for today's test with a few costly issues. Costly in terms of deductions by the submission for Ascenzione with a 7,0 and Delorean with a 7,3.
Atterupgaards Delorean and Selina were absolut shining except of the small issues, and they just brings the qualities worth a spot at the World Championship podium, and are direct qualified for the final with a placement as no 9 for today's qualifier.
H2R comments during the test:
Power, elegance and top balance for the trot tour, bit open halt for rein back and tensions, good walk clear difference between medium and extended, small tension before transition to canter, tensions for transition to canter, error for counter canter to right, late transition to trot.
trot 9.2 walk 8.8 canter 8.7 submission 7.3 perspective 9.0 = 8,60
Combinations from the semi final to the final
Ascensione and Victoria will do the semi final tomorrow, and looks like a potential combination for the final.
H2R comments during the test:
Super swing expressive trot tour lovely freedom, superb relaxation for the walk nice over track, small unbalance for medium canter on volte, super transition canter/walk/canter.
Like also Lindballe´s Just Perfect by Johnson / De Niro with Australian rider Simone Pearce which were placed just outside top 12 today with 8,30.
And the H2R bet for tomorrow's top 3 will include the French combination Start de l´Ocean by Soliman de Hus / Carismo with Guillaume Recoing.
Just not their day today
Unfortunately the beautiful and well moving Danish Warmblood Fürstenball / De Noir daughter Delizia with experienced Anne Troensegaard in the saddle did not show their best today. Small tensions and some unbalances throughout the test kept them away from the great scores. Now they also have to fight for a final spot through the semi final tomorrow.
Other top combinations
Germany´s Eva Möller showed a strong test with the lovely mare Candy OLD by Sir Donnerhall I / Fürst Heinrich. From H2R point of view just slightly high tempo all the way.
Emmelie Scholtens was back in the Ermelo arena after showing great performances for the national championships with Desperado. This time with the Apache/Vivaldi son Indian Rock. Very balanced and obedient test, just lacking a bit more freedom for the extended trot and extended walk tour.
Dorian Grey de Hus with French Jessica Michel Botton showed a lovely test except of an issue when turning away from A for the canter where Dorian becomes somewhat over excited. Super frame all the way, easy going with nice selfcarriage.
Revolution and Andreas Helgstrand representing Germany - photo credit: Lily Forado
This morning 5 year old qualification startede in Ermelo
42 combinations were ready entering the qualifier for 5 year old horses at the 2018 edition of World Championship for Young Horses.
As always there is a huge differences between the nations, and over the years Denmark and Danish Warmblood has become a major player at the World Championships, of course with Helgstrand Dressage showing absolute top youngsters every year.
This year without exception where the boss himself Andreas Helgstrand took the lead early in the completion with Danish Warmblood gelding Zhaplin Langholt by Zonik / Stedinger. Later beaten by himself with the top stallion Revolution by Rocky Lee / Rouletto, 2nd place for Matthias Rath with Descatado by Desperados / Londonderry and 3rd with another Zonik son Zucchero with Prince Thatch xx as damsire ridden by Frederic Wandres.
Revolution is German bred and therefore Helgstrand is showing him for Germany. The big stallion was really on fire today, and luckily with Andreas´ experience they succeeded very well all the way, and the longside before the medium canter was more than well managed from Helgstrand when the big stallion just wanted to tell Ermelo that he was the one in the arena now by the World Championship.
H2R comments during the test:
Power flow trot tour, tense halt for rein back, huge walk small tensions, tensions screaming before going into medium canter, but Andreas keeps the balance and focus, superb canter, super half circle trot. 9,06.
trot 9.5 walk 8.8 canter 9,0 submission 8,5 perspective 9.5
No doubt Revolution was top prepared by the groom Mikkala - private photo.
No 51 by Fürstenball / Sir Donnerhall I
About 60 dressage foals will be auctioned Saturday during the Verden International event
In general good qualities from the collection and it ones again looks like a top price for a Fürstenball foal, as both no 51 and 55 looks like very attractive foals.
And no 82 by Quantensprung / San Amour brings some successful genes as the dam line is also the same dam line as yesterday's top mare Dollar Girl presented for Herwart von der Decken Show by HP Horses. This filly is a really super mover.
Other interesting foals from H2R point of view:

I 7 års holdet er bl.a.
The weather sets the agenda
All over in Europe the summer has been more than hot, and of course this is something very special to deal with when competing the horses.
This weekend with national Dutch championships in Ermelo, and due to 36.5 degrees yesterday, it was wisely decided to cancel the first day's Grand Prix and instead move it on till today. This meant that the Grand Prix Special, which is usually a kind of consolation final was deleted from from schedule this year. Sunday will be with kür as planned.
Yesterday with too hot weather and today starting with cloudy grey sky turning into thunder storm when Edward Gal with Glock´s Zonik just entered the arena.
Again this year Gal and Zonik are top favorites for the 2018 title. The 12 best combinations are ready for the final freestyle tomorrow.
See the detailed results here.
PRESS RELEASE - Nordic International Sales
Danish dressage foals and horses are very popular among riders and breeders, and clearly people outside Denmark have discovered their obvious qualities. Therefore, numerous foals have been purchased by foreign customers at the auctions – without any problems up until now where an American buyer placed the winning bid on six foals without paying. The knockdown prices on these foals ranged from 11,000 to 27,000 euro
– We have never experienced anything like that before, says Casper Cassøe, General Manager at Danish Warmblood referring to the American buyer, Robert Lindholm from California who placed the winning bid on six foals at the NIS Auction, signed the contracts and repeatedly expressed his excitement about the acquisition, however, without paying the due amounts despite the fact that he received several reminders both in writing and by telephone.
The NIS Auction – Nordic International Sales – is held in cooperation between The Danish Warmblood Society, Helgstrand Dressage and the international event organiser Equitour Aalborg at Andreas Helgstrand’s impressive arena in Northern Jutland. The auction is given high attention internationally and there are buyers from many countries.
Casper Cassøe is very annoyed by the situation. This kind of problem has never occurred before at the auctions. His frustration is not least due to the six disappointed breeders who are now in limbo – not knowing whether their foals are sold.
– Prior to the auction, we had contact with the buyer on the phone, and he confirmed his interest by e-mail as well as he accepted the auction rules which were sent to him prior to the auction. The course of events has been just as all other transactions with foreign customers, except from the fact that the buyer did not pay the due amounts, Casper informs.
In connection with several telephone conversations, the American buyer has expressed his excitement about the foals, but still he will not let go of the money. The Danish Warmblood secretariat has investigated if Robert Lindholm has bought foals or horses at auctions held by other horse studbooks in Europe which has been confirmed. In these cases, the payment was also received very late or not at all.
– We cannot protect the breeders against people who act in bad faith in connection with our auctions, however I am very sorry on behalf of the breeders, says the General Manager of Danish Warmblood who has now handed over the case to lawyer Sophus Bøgeskov.
– In consultation with Sophus Bøgeskov we have adviced the breeders to annul the sales agreements due to the violation of the agreement. This will allow the breeders to sell the foals to someone else. The breeders have been invited to present the foals in question at the Danish Warmblood Elite Foal Auction on 25 August at Vilhelmsborg. We hope this press release helps warn against this buyer at other auctions. We are talking about very unreasonable behaviour and lack of respect for other people, concludes General Director of the Danish Warmblood Society, Casper Cassøe.

The Dutch championships comes up this weekend, and it will be without Apache and Emmelie Scholtens as the Dutch team coach Van der Schaft has made an exception.
Normally it is also required that all combinations has to be at start for both CHIO Rotterdam and National Championship, but due to last weekends CHIO Aachen with super results for Emmelie and Apache they are allowed to stay home. And as Van der Schaft stated to Horses.nl it is not a final selection for the combination for WEG, but just so that he has seen enough and the combination has shown a stable and upward performance curve.
3 top foals, 2 of them with jumping genes by the damline
Common for all 3 foals are clear solid rhythm with lovely uphill carriage. Looks like very interesting foals for the future. (videos below)
Both the presentation at Saturday at 13.30 and the auction at 16.00 will be available via Clipmyhorse.
