Athletes from 54 nations will battle for first-week medals

Part of FEI press release

Screen Shot 2018-09-04 at 20.59.22.png

Dressage also begins on 12 September and the big question here will be whether Germany’s Isabell Werth can add to the seven gold medals she has previously taken. There are three separate competitions: the Team event, the Grand Prix Special and the Grand Prix Freestyle. Werth won her first gold in the Special in 1994 on the road to becoming the most medalled athlete in the history of equestrian sport today. A total of 61 riders from 23 countries participated that year, and this time there will be 78 representing 31 nations.

The fairytale success of Charlotte Dujardin (GBR) and her brilliant gelding Valegro who, at the height of their career together, collected both the Special and Freestyle titles in Normandy (FRA) four years ago, has been largely responsible for a massive surge in the popularity of modern Dressage. The British rider will defend her titles, but this time around with the relatively untried Mount St John Freestyle while Werth has decided to swap her world number one ride, Weihegold, for her personal favourite Bella Rose whose march to the podium in Caen was abruptly halted by injury.

Germany claimed team gold for the 11th time in 2014, and holds the record for most medals, 22 in total, at the WEG. However the hosts from the USA are tipped to turn the tide, led by the world number three combination of Laura Graves and Verdades who have been showing fantastic recent form.

Definite Dressage entries here.

Bundeschampion 6 year old Revenant coming a bit from behind for the title

Revenant by Rock Forever I / Sir Donnerhall I ridden by Rudolf Widmann showed a power, positive and controlled test for today's Bundeschampion title.

They came as shared 4th place from the preliminary test Wednesday with a total score of 8,30, and from that point there were no obvious contender for the title. Today's total score was 9,0.

Dr. Dietrich Plewa says at the subsequent comments, that it looked liked a bit too forces before starting the test, but the test became in both good control and balance all the way without any technical issues.

The favorite from the preliminary test was Fürst William with Beatrice Buchwald in the saddle, but today they ended up as no 4 with at total score of 8,50. First flying change became after the aides and the one walk pirouette did also not succeed perfectly, and also a comment from the judges about a bit unsteady mouth. From H2R point of view the overall picture today was lacking more expression and power.

Huge success for Skovens Rafael offsprings all over the World

Skovens Rafael producing top horses for both sport and breeding

Once again Skovens Rafael offsprings showed great performances. This time at Vilhelmsborg from the two full brothers with De Niro as dam sire bred by Vastra Hoby Stuteri Ab in Sweden. Both the 8 year old Springbank VH and also the 4 year old Springbank II VH were showing top class.

Post at Facebook from Priess Stutteri after another successful Skovens Rafael offspring weekend:

"We are so proud of the results Skovens Rafael offspring are getting all around world. They are truly showing the ride ability and power we love about them.

This weekend Springbank II VH and Severo Jurado López won the 4yr qualifier with amazing 9,54.
The national PSG at Vilhelmsborg Friday was won by Springbank VH and Carina Nevermann Torup, following up at second place was Præstekovens Raquel and Maria Anita Andersen.

In Norway Sandbæks Rio-El and Mathilde Merethe Klaesson won the Norwegian Championship for Juniors. And Lotta Åndal and Skikkilds Ralina got bronze for Young Riders.

The other day we counted at least 15 offspring competing at PSG level or more around the world, and those are only the once we know of. Pretty good amount considering how many offspring he has in that age group. A huge congratulations to the riders, we love to keep track of you."

Fürst William and Beatrice Buchwald winner of 6 year old qualifier at Bundeschampionate today

Screen Shot 2018-08-29 at 19.21.52.png

Convincing victory for today's 6 year old qualifier for the final at the Bundeschampionate for Fürst William HC with Beatrice Buchwald in the saddle.

It looks like a very clear favorite combination for the title this year, as the came 2nd last year. But today's qualities are just clearly ahead of the competitors even though the scores were quite equal with 8,60 for today's 2nd placed combination Quadrophenia with Carina Bachmann in the saddle.

Beatrice and Fürst William HC showing a super flowing test without any technical issues, the only tiny thing is the contact which is steady and supple, but for some moments Fürst William is just nodding a tiny bit instead of staying 100% quiet in the contact.

The 12 best combinations are ready for the final which takes place Saturday at 13:00. And 3 more combinations will join the final from the semi final taking place tomorrow.

Results from today's 6 year old qualifier here.

Screen Shot 2018-08-26 at 20.39.22.png

Part of press release

At the Danish Warmblood KRAFFT Elite Show the best young mares from all over the country gather to compete for the champion titles of the year. Four 3-year-old saddle-graded mares were awarded a gold medal

The best of Danish sport horse breeding is represented at the Danish Warmblood KRAFFT Elite Show which takes place every year at the end of August at the Danish Warmblood head quarters. Top quality foals, 2-year-old fillies and young saddle-graded mares have been selected at regional foal shows and mare gradings all over the country during summer to meet in the finals at Vilhelmsborg outside Aarhus.

Outstanding collection of dressage mares
In the outstanding collection of 33 newly saddle-graded dressage mares that were invited to take part at the Danish Warmblood KRAFFT Elite Mare Show 19 were awarded breeder medal in bronze, 10 silver and four gold. The judges described the four gold medal mares as modern, elegant and very functional, and breeding consultant Karina Christiansen stated that it was a difficult job to choose one above the others.

However, the very feminine and expressive Grevens Fakina by Blue Hors Farell x Jazz impressed under saddle with three very supple gaits and high rideability. The breeders and owners of this very graceful mare, Dorit Greve and Svend Skov Poulsen had also bred two mares that were awarded bronze.

The other three gold medal in the final ring were the former DWB foal champion Schwarze Schwalbe Macohl by Sezuan x Schwadroneur, bred by Frank Jensen and Thomas Bach Jensen and owned by Anne Lyngbye, Gozzip by Sezuan x De Noir bred by Bente Michaelsen and owned by Ditte Gilkær and Åtoftens Zehavia by Blue Hors Zack x Benetton Dream bred by Annette Bugge and Claus Hansen and co-owned with Andreas Helgstrand.

In the past, several of the best mares from the Danish Warmblood Elite Mare Show have made their way to the FEI/WBFSH world championships for young horses. Only the future will tell if these young mares have what it takes to become internationally successful sport horses.

In the category for 2-year-old dressage fillies the beautiful chestnut Diva Holmklit, bred and owned by Trine Udklit Sørensen, stood out in a league of her own. Her flawless type and elastic and supple gaits earned her the champion title.
