Hesselhøj Donkey Boy and Jan Møller Christensen with top performance

From the start list it was once again with a World Champion combination, D´Avie with Severo Jurado Lopez. Today D´Avie was just a bit too much on the toes for the trot tour even though Severo is a master to present a horse, the tensions just crept in for the trot tour, but still scoring same level at today’s winner Hesselhøj Donkey Boy with 9,2 for the trot.

Jan Møller Christensen and Hesselhøj Donkey Boy are defending national champions, but said that it is almost a totally different world moving from 5 year old top class to 6 year old top class, of course not when the horse has both the qualities and abilities.

The walk….

Hesselhøj Donkey Boy showed a top performance together with Jan Møller Christensen today, super balance all the way. Very obedient, 100% concentration about the job and supple. Nice frame and easy light contact without any technical issues.

The “big” question from a lot of people has always been “but what about his huge walk”?

It´s never been an issue when performing, as it has always been with a clear beat with huge over track, and now as 6 year old you can just sit back enjoy every walk step from today’s rein back and forward with clear beat from the first step till the last step (just with some excited steps before the transition to canter today). The “tricky” phase when picking up the rein from extended walk does not becomes tricky at all, Donkey Boy (and Jan) just manage to add activity for the more collected walk, and at the same time maintaining the clear beat - this is just outstand and well deserved without any doubt a clear 10 for the walk.

No doubt the 2018 champion will be either Donkey Boy or D´Avie - tomorrow will tell us.

New to H2R is the stallion Adoro by Ampere / Donnerschwee with Helgstrand Dressage rider Manuel Springhetti. Super nice expressive performance with a lot of qualities and easy effortless.

Today’s best flying changes

New Blue Hors rider Nanna Merrald and Blue Hors Zirrus shows a very solid test and without any doubt today’s best flying changes.

A couple of “different” scores

  • One combination with the comments from the judges about just one clear change and to much on the forehand = 8,2 for ride ability.

  • Both changes with error and short/long walk = 8 for potential.

No Consolation finals

The format without consolation final does not really suit a young horse final. Going to the finals with one of the highest scoring young horses and then having the test destroyed like Rikke Dupont today with Hayden KS today. It looked like he got very scared from the applauding audience for the combinations before, and that became the end of the finals for Rikke and Hayden without getting the chance again via the consolation final.

VIDEOS - 15 combinations ready for 5 year old final at Danish national federation championship for Young Horses

Revolution and Andreas Helgstrand - photo credit: Lily Forado

Revolution and Andreas Helgstrand - photo credit: Lily Forado

Revolution and Helgstrand himself with another top performance

The big impressive stallion Revolution with Andreas Helgstrand in the saddle is a very successful combination, and today without exception and with a clear well deserved 10 for the canter.

Helgstrand Dressage also dominates the 5 year old

2nd today was Kenneth Damgaard with For Emotion, for sure not an easy ride knowing that there was no room for tensions or on the toes walk today, but much better control than for the qualifier at Vilhelmsborg.

The new combination Severo Jurado Lopez and Devenport does really show great development also since Vilhelmsborg qualifier.

Videos of top 3 are posted below.

Difficult to be “happy amateur”

Just two non professionals are ready for the final, no 4 Pernille Elten Sigsgaard with Møgelvang Farrari by Sezuan/Come Back II, they are like Helle Wibe with DD Benissima by Belissimo M/Don Romantic well known from Danish Warmblood Young Horse championship finals earlier this year in Herning.

Words of praise for “just” 9,1

For Daniel Bachmann Andersen with the Zack son Zampalo it might have been kind of weird when the judges just had words of praises for the trot work and then just rewarded with 9,1. From the sideline it definitely sounded like closer to 10.

One horse is for sure missing for the 5 year old final tomorrow

From the start of this preliminary 5 year old class it became somewhat weird with scoring from the judges. But without watching the individual marks the conclusion is that 15 horses are ready for the final with just one missing.

The light footed and expressive chestnut mare Straight Horse Sezuanna by Blue Hors Zack / Blue Hors Don Schufro (full sister of Sezuan) with Kenneth Damgaard in the saddle was first to go this morning. They were just rewarded with a total of 75,200, without a single mark over 8,0!

This is a young horse competition and it is also about ride ability and potential. For Sezuanna it was clearly not a question about not being ride able, as she was nice obedient all the way, just showing some “baby” tensions throughout the test today. The way this mare moves is for sure for the future, and the general qualities of the gaits are clearly for at least 8 even with today’s tensions, and then of course with a smaller deduction for the ride ability today, but the huge potential is obvious. The marks were: Trot 7,8 - walk 7,2 - canter 7,6 - ride ability 7,2 - potential 7,8

Another combination with a very weird judging was Delizia with Anne Troensegaard. This mare has never been shown as balanced and powerful as for today’s trot tour, and yes she is still missing the final strength for the extensions but still keeping the balance. Every single step for the rest of the trot tour was spot on, and more like a 9,5-9,7 and not as scored just 8,5. The walk itself was good with clear beat, but could have shown more relaxation. Score from judges just 7,3, at least 1.0 too low for today’s test. The canter was today’s “problem” as tensions were shown throughout the entire canter tour and starting with error for the transition to canter where the rider trying twice before Delizia taking the signal. But bringing the ride ability mark as low as 7,2 seems to be out of line. At the same time the potential is obvious even with the tensions for the canter today, and the deduction down to a 8,8 level instead of the scoring 7,8 had been much more correct.

These two mares shows something very exciting when you wear the “future glasses”.

Worlds best Young Horses at start but still no foreign judge

The majority of Worlds best young horses are at start for the national championships, among them World Champion for 5 year old Revolution and World Champion for 6 year old D´avie.

The field of top horses deserves a combination of national judges, and for sure also a pair of international eyes for this very international field of top young horses. The recent Swedish Breeders Trophy was ones again successful with international judge Isobel Wessels as a part of the judging team.

Dujardin testing the 4 year old horses at Swedish Breeders Trophy

Screen Shot 2018-10-06 at 18.21.43.png

For the third year in a row Charlotte Dujardin is test rider at the final for the 4 year old horses at Swedish Breeders Trophy at Flyinge.

10 young horses were qualified for today’s testing. Even though the qualities were somewhat limited from the preliminary round, Dujardin just manage to get the best out of every single horse, and at the same explaining and commenting all the time about what she feels and likes and where she sees the abilities and weaknesses.

From the first part two horses were showing super qualities, the first horse by Blue Hors Don Romantic / Hohenstein. Lovely frame, easy and quick off the ground, super nice contact, scoring 8,5 for ride ability and 9,0 for potential. And then a smaller mare by Skovens Rafael / Quaterback with a bit of not so clear contact, but superb engine and willingness to work combined with lightness for the gaits, as Dujardin prefers, and with the comment we already know from Dujardin “I wanna take her home”.

2nd part with the stallion Demand by Ampere / Blue Hors Don Schufro. Some of the comments from Dujardin during her ride “Great qualities of the transitions, very even in the contact and not “man like” at all, really really impressive - by far my best ride, and big applause for the rider”. (Yvonne Österholm).

Just some of the comments from Dujardin about Springbank II VH “like getting in a Rolls Royce cruising, I just don’t know what to say that´s incredible, love love love him, his the best 4 year old I’ve ever sat on, 10 is just not enough, I give Severo a 10, and I give the breeder a 10, Springbank is my ideal man”.

Olympia launches new FEI DRESSAGE WORLD CUP™ competition

unnamed-2.jpg

Media Release: 05 October 2018

HPower Group, organiser of Olympia, The London International Horse Show, host to the UK leg of the FEI Dressage World Cup™, has worked in consultation with the FEI and international dressage riders to revitalise the FEI Dressage World Cup™ competition by making it more interesting to a wider audience. The two evenings of the newly designed competition will be seen at Olympia on Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th December 2018.

Agreed by the FEI Dressage World Cup™ Committee, this will form a two-year pilot project, which seeks to actively engage the audience and broaden the discipline’s appeal, particularly during the Grand Prix Test.

The changes to the existing dressage format include significant alterations to the Grand Prix phase, although the test will still be judged and ridden in the same format as all other FEI technical tests and will continue to demand the highest level of technical ability, accuracy and precision. The Grand Prix changes include

  • A shorter Grand Prix technical set Test of five minutes

  • Music will be selected for each rider, by a professional Musical Director, for the Grand Prix Test, which will reflect each combination’s personality and interests

  • After the Grand Prix, riders will remain in the arena to watch the Judges scores, which will provide immediacy and instant reaction

  • During the Grand Prix, spectators will be able to assess their own marking skills against the professional Judges

After each Grand Prix Test, riders will discuss their performance in a short interview in front of the audience. Collectively, it will give the audience a Masterclass from the rider’s perspective over the entire competition.

Richard Davison, Dressage Consultant to the Olympia Organising Committee, who has been working together with the FEI on the project said, “The World Cup series is a really important opportunity for us to showcase dressage and widen its appeal. This pilot project is an exciting initiative aimed at adding considerably more spectator appeal, while maintaining traditional dressage values and a highly competitive format.”

Simon Brooks-Ward, Show Director, said: “This new format is not a gimmick or a theatrical experiment. I have been convinced, for some time, that Dressage in the World Cup Series has been underperforming against its potential. Unashamedly – and I believe quite rightly – we want to make the Grand Prix evening at Olympia as meaningful, relevant and exciting as the Freestyle night. Two cracking nights of elite competition will do a lot to improve Dressage’s visibility amongst those who have not been initiated into the complexities of the sport.”

Adding to the dressage entertainment will be The Reprise Des Douzes from La Garde Republicaine, who are renowned for their balletic dressage moves and technically difficult group riding. The Olympia Grand Prix evening, on Monday 17th December, is set to be an evening where the audience can immerse themselves in the highly skilled sport of dressage.

Springbank II VH and Severo Jurado Lopez showed outstanding qualities

Springbank II VH and Severo Jurado Lopez - photo credit: H2R

A huge class of the best 4 year old Swedish Warmblood horses

From watching the entire class the over all impression was unfortunately with lack of basic qualities for the Swedish young horses.

Lack of power, expression and suppleness, and for the majority also lack of balance. Of course the environment is very different as they are all qualified at the outdoor season, and now has to do the final indoor.

Once again Swedish Warmblood has invited British international judge Isobel Wessels as part of the judging team. Super nice and constructive comments, as it often became somewhat difficult the express clear enthusiasm, when the qualities obviously were missing.

From H2R point view the offsprings by Skovens Rafael just brings something extra. And of course the combination of Severo and Springbank is something special. The walk was definitely worth more than and 8,5.

Brilliant Blend by Blue Hors Don Romantic / Hohenstein also showed nice qualities and nice natural frame, and is the last horse qualified for Saturday´s test riding by Charlotte Dujardin, as the 10 best horses will be tested. Testing starts at 17:00.

A few very interesting horses for the upcoming HANN elite auction in Verden 13 October

Huge collections for the upcoming HANN elite auction with both riding horses, young stallions and foals.

Before the auction takes place there will be different days to watch the presentation of the horses via live stream.

H2R favourites are:

Young stallions

Very limited when you just see the stallions in trot and walk by the hand, as they all must be prepared for lunging.

Foals

Here you find the entire collections.

One super star at OLD elite auction for riding horses 6 October

Screen Shot 2018-10-02 at 16.46.54.png

Unfortunately nearly half of the video time on each horse is in slow motion, and at the same time a lot of the horses are shown direct from the front which doesn´t make any sense.

Absolute top price from H2R point of view is this 4 year old gelding by Dimaggio - Brentano II. He just brings the whole package for the future. Super expression, lovely balance, sharp hind legs and suppleness in the body for all three gaits.

Screen Shot 2018-10-02 at 17.22.31.png

Also for H2R top list is no 1 by San Amour. Light-footed mare with good balance and nice expression.
