Screen+Shot+2019-07-17+at+13.57.57.jpg

Super German summer weather this morning for today’s CDIO5 Grand Prix in Aachen.

🇺🇸 Alcazar and Kathrine Bateson-Chandler with 1st parts best performance scoring 72,674%. Showing an expressive test, lovely passage and no technical issue.

Alcazar USA - good halt, nice expression diagonal bit short frame, nice crossing half passes, good halt with rein back, nice expression diagonal, nice back into passage, good passage, small uneven steps hind 1st piaffe, need bit more let go for extended walk, bit tense collected walk, good transition to passage, easy into piaffe bit tense, lack bit more flow out, nice transition to canter, swinging 2 times, nice extended canter with super change at the diagonal line, good zigzag, nice quality 1 times becomes bit short in the neck, lack bit control for 1st pirouette, 2nd pirouette lack final control out, nice diagonal, super nice passage, bit tense piaffe, nice halt.

Two Danish combinations

Jojo and Agnete showed a nice test but unfortunately with costly errors for both series.

🇩🇰Jojo AZ DEN - super halt, nice diagonal, lack using corner before going into 1st half pass, lack bit balance to left, good halt with rein back, good diagonal, nice transition to passage, nice 1st passage/piaffe/passage with good transitions, good walk tour, good transition to passage, nice 2nd piaffe with good transitions, error end 2 times, becomes a bit flat for extended canter, well balanced zigzag, error mid 1 times, lack bit more canter for 1st pirouette, 2nd better, good transition to trot, good diagonal, super smooth final centerline. 71,413%

Fidelio and Anders showed a solid test, and considering the horse is just 10 year old and still lacking experience and strength, and only issue was counting error from Anders in the zigzag.

🇩🇰Fidelio v.h. Bloemenhof DEN - good halt, nice diagonal, good half passes but could show bit more flow, open halt bit tense rein back, super nice diagonal, good transition to passage, lack bit more clear rhythm for piaffe but nice side picture, good passage, good walk, nice piaffe but becomes bit limited with power from hind, nice 2 times, good extension, nice balanced zigzag unfortunately with counting error, super smooth 1 times, good pirouettes could show bit more power from hind, super diagonal, nice final centerline. 71,043%

🇩🇪Unfortunately not the piaffe day for Damsey and Helen - he just kind of ignored the signals from Helen today for all three piaffe tours and did not look as motivated as we usual see him. Final score 71,239%

Aachen is Aachen

The huge atmosphere did also affect some of the combinations in today’s CDI4 Grand Prix, but in general a very good class with lots of top performances.

At the top once again Cosmo with Sönke Rothenberger, even though Sönke wisely chose the “safe” way entering the completion arena for just the 2nd time since WEG last year, it still paid off.

Overall picture for Cosmo and Sönke is just a power pleasure to watch, with only a few moments of a bit strong contact, bit tense extended walk, piaffe tours could be a bit sharper at the spot, but from there trending between 8´s and 9´s all the way making the result 81.370%

Cosmo / Sönke Rothenberger GER - smooth diagonal lovely balance, good half passes, good halt bit resistance for rein back, wauw supple diagonal, super nice passage, bit forward 1st piaffe, need more let go extended walk, good collected walk, super into passage, tiny forward 2nd piaffe, good transition to canter, nice 2 times, bit conservative extended canter, nice zigzag, good 1 time bit strong contact, nice control for both pirouettes, into riders hand for diagonal, super nice final centerline.

Isabell Werth and Emilio showed a strong test today, small lack of activity for the piaffe tours, but Werth does not give any points away.

Emilio / Isabell Werth GER - super halt direct forward, expressive diagonal, lack bit more go/flow for half passes, small lack of rhythm for diagonal, good passage, piaffe lacking bit more energy, super nice transitions, bit shorter left hind for extended walk, good transition to passage, nice 2nd piaffe, good 2 times, nice extension, good zigzag, 1 times could cover more diagonal, nice 1st pirouette, 2nd becomes bit bigger, good final centerline.

🇩🇰 Cathrine Dufour and Atterupgaards Cassidy showed at sharp performance, but today the piaffe tours were lacking bit more power and clarity of the rhytmn.

Atterupgaards Cassidy / Cathrine Dufour DEN - good halt, power diagonal, good balance for both half passes, super halt with nice rein back, power diagonal, good passage, lack bit more activity and forward search bit out of rhythm, superb walk tour, 2nd piaffe lack tiny activity again, tense transition to canter, super 2 times, power extended canter, super 1 times, nice control pirouettes, 2nd with better activity, super transition, power diagonal, nice final centerline.

New British/Dutch combination at the Aachen scene

It was debut at Deutsche Bank Stadium in Aachen today for 23 year old British Charlotte Fry, first winning the Prix Sct. Georg with KWPN stallion Glamourdale with almost 78%, and then showing a super nice Grand Prix performance together with the just 10 year old KWPN stallion Everdale. It was a more than hot Everdale when entering the stadium, but Lottie manage to make him confident and attentive before entering the centerline - what a cool overview from a debutant in Aachen today. Everdale and Fry look like an attractive card for the future for the British team. They finished today in 9th position with 71,913%.

Both stallions are owned by Van Olst Horses in the Netherlands where Charlotte has been part of the team for the last 5 years.

Of course it was a proud trainer on the ground today, former Danish Olympic team bronze medalist Anne van Olst, making it possible for her student not just to ride in Aachen, but also being well prepared and successful with two top stallions.

Everdale / Charlotte Fry GBR - expressive start, good half passes lack bit more bend, good halt with rein back, good swing passage, becomes high in the neck for the piaffe, active piaffe with super transition out, good walk tour, better relaxation for 2nd piaffe tour, super transition from walk to passage, big 2 times covering all diagonal, good extended canter, superb zigzag, super 1 times, bit big pirouettes, good diagonal, super nice final centerline.

2 x 10 = 5,5% ahead of no 2 - score 77,971%

A very busy Aachen week just started for British Charlotte Fry, based at Van Olst Horses in the Netherlands. Charlotte Fry is showing 3 horses during CHIO Aachen. Glamourdale for the international small tour, Everdale for the CDI4, and Dark Legend for the CDIO tour.

Today World Champion for Young Horses 2018 Glamourdale from Van Olst Horses showed his top class once again with British Charlotte Fry in the saddle. For the final halt Fry and Glamourdale got 2 x 10!

H2R comments during the test today:

Glamourdale / Fry GBR - power balanced trot tour, smooth shoulder in, volte, half passes, good collected walk, could show bit more over the back extended walk, superb canter pirouettes, super series, WOW extended canter. Spectators agree this was something special.

Dutch Joyce Heuitink with her successful small tour horse Gaudi Vita show a very nice test. Before entering the arena it looked a bit complicated, but from entering the centerline it looked as if Joyce got the focus back from Gaudi for the test.

Gaudi Vita / Heuitink NED - good trot tour with nice expression and activity, good collected walk, lack bit more let go for extended walk, high quality of canter pirouettes, lovely forward flow for both series.

Placed 3rd was Hubertus Schmidt with Denoix.

Denoix / Hubertus Schmidt GER - smooth trot tour with nice expression all the way, very nice walk small disturb, bit unbalanced start of canter tour, 2nd pirouette bit hind aides, bit swing series.

27 July with Westfalen foal auction

Overall impression - a very good collection of foals

Westfalen presents a huge collection of foal for the auction during Westfalen Woche, and it looks like a very nice and attractive collection with well moving and expressive foals. Unfortunately there is only video of the foals in trot which of makes it difficult to give a total picture of the foal, and even though there are a couple of very attractive modern foal by Franziskus you should look out for both the canter and the walk qualities.

Two foals showing something extra fra H2R point of view

This Marc Cain colt is not just light and supple in the forehand, the way he is able to push from the hind under the center of gravity is really something special.

Escamillo is one of the very frequented stallions and his offsprings seem to bring lovely type and good gaits, but this filly is just outstanding. The lightness in the forehand and the way she pushes herself uphill without being hectic is just special.

Link to the entire collection here.

Nations Cup home win for Sweden today at Falsterbo (VIDEO of individual freestyle winner Zack & Daniel)

Sweden took the leading position after the team Grand Prix and kept the German team away with strong performances from all 4 team members today.

For the Danish team it became kind of a “one man show” as Daniel Bachmann with Blue Hors Zack showed top performances for both the Grand Prix and today’s freestyle with individual victories, while the performances from the other team members unfortunately couldn’t bring the team at the podium position this time for the Nations Cup.
