New Team sets new standards

The Oldenburg stallion market was staged by the new auction team and finished with an excellent result. The Stallion Days in the Oldenburg Horse Center Vechta closed with an excellent stallion market. For 660,000 Euros, the champion stallion of the Verband der Züchter des Oldenburger Pferdes e.V. (OL), a son of Bon Coeur - De Niro - Langata Son - Pik Bube I, bred by Sigrid Schmidt from Villingen-Schwenningen/ Baden-Wuerttemberg and exhibited by Heinrich Gießelmann from Barver/ Lower Saxony, was knocked down to the Dressurpferde Leistungszentrum Lodbergen.

The new auction team, under the direction of Christoph F. Rowold, Thorsten Castle, who made his debut as an auctioneer in Vechta, Bernhard Thoben, Advisor to the Breeding Director and sales manager jumping, as well as the sales manager dressage Thomas Rhinow and Daniel Pophanken, provided a brilliant end of the Oldenburg Stallion Days. The team work delivered international top prizes. And also the Oldenburg show jumping stallions set standards worldwide: The second Reserve Champion of the jumping stallions by Don Diarado - Conthargos - Lordanos - Landadel, bred by Marion Dies, Fresenburg, and exhibited by Zuchthof René Tebbel, Emsbüren, shined for 300,000 Euros. The black-brown stallion will move to an international showjumping stable in Hesse. The jumping talent is the brother of the 2018 champion stallion Don Tryon.

Impressive stallions stay in the Oldenburger Münsterland: The OS-Champion Stallion by Conthargos - Balou du Rouet - Chacco-Blue - Lancer III, bred and exhibited by Johann Ifverson from Sweden, changes for 230,000 Euros to the Paul Schockemöhle Stud in Mühlen, as well as the second price peak of the dressage stallion, a son by Asgard's Ibiza - Rohdiamant – Donnerschwee - Furioso II, bred and exhibited by Vasco Janke, Jesteburg/ Lower Saxony. The movement king was slammed for 155,000 Euros.

"The quality of our stallion lot, which is without equal, especially in international comparison, was rewarded by the customers. I am pleased that both Champion Stallions were knocked down after exciting bidding duels at very good prices. For the further development of our breed, it is very pleasing that both stallions remain in Germany", sums up auction director Christoph F. Rowold.

All dressage stallions of the Verband der Züchter des Oldenburger Pferdes (OL) will find a new home in Germany. At the Springpferdezuchtverband Oldenburg-International (OS), eight out of 24 stallions will change to international customers. In detail, the stallions will go to the Netherlands (2), Swiss (2), Estonia (1), Indonesia (1), Slovenia (1) and Sweden (1).

Most of the stallions from today’s free presentation showed tensions and did not really look comfortable in the arena.

A few showed really nicely, among them the For Romance II from Blue Hors and the Sezuan from Helgstrand was really shining with great overview, suppleness and relaxation and actually showed better than H2R favourite from yesterday the Revolution son. Also the Vitalis son from Helgstrand showed himself more confident today.

Blue Hors did only present the For Romance II stallion for the licensing, while Helgstrand Dressage showed 5 at got 4 licensed.

SICAB is THE place to be

SICAB is for sure the place to be if you are Pura Raza Español (PRE) fan, or just want to enjoy the Spanish atmosphere and experience the Spanish men and women with their horses. The tradition for the PRE horses grows from generation to generation, and when you go to SICAB it´s like stepping into the both the history and the present moment. Old breeders and the young generation meets at SICAB, the biggest breeding farms has huge stands where they are showing their successes, and at the same time they have exclusive areas where they invite friends for a cozy get together, the Spanish way of cocktail parties.

It must be a combination of developing both the breeding and the riding in order to step forward with the PRE horse

The big issue for the Spanish breeders is still to be able to breed a sport horse with 3 good basic gaits. Often the Spanish horse is with an impressive trot, or at least the riders are able to develop the trot, but unfortunately when it comes to both walk and canter it is often the weak gaits. And when looking into today’s finals it was just a few of the young horses showing 3 clear basic gaits, and with the new goals for the PRE horses being part of the future sport, they must look much more into the breeding. Most of the Spanish riders are quite experienced riding Spanish horses, but for some riders it seems to be a clear lack of experience being able to develop and balance the young horses in both the walk and the canter.

More of the older stallions which also were shown today by the hand showed good gaits, while the group of 4 year old mares were really limited from the 3 gaits perspective.

A pleasure to watch today’s winner of 4 year old final, from successful sport breeding stud Yeguada Susaeta with rider Guillermo Garcia Ayala.

German riders claim top five places and dominate WEL leaderboard
 
Jessica von Bredow-Werndl was “over the moon” with delight after winning the third leg of the FEI Dressage World Cup™ 2019/2020 Western European League on home ground at Stuttgart (GER) today. Riding the 12-year-old Trakehner mare TSF Dalera BB with which she claimed team gold at the FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2018 in Tryon (USA) and individual Freestyle bronze at this summer’s European Championships in Rotterdam (NED), she produced a breathtaking performance to pin defending triple-champions Isabell Werth and Weihegold into second place. 

The host nation completely dominated the line-up with Helen Langehanenberg, Dorothee Schneider and Benjamin Werndl finishing third, fourth and fifth. For von Bredow-Werndl this was a very special result.

Werth, winner with Emilio at the second leg of the series in Lyon (FRA) two weeks ago, looked set to march to victory once again after topping yesterday’s Grand Prix in which today’s winner had to settle for second place. But a couple of blips saw the legendary lady trailing her team-mate who set a massive target-score of 88.440 when second-last to go.

The Freestyle began with Ireland’s Judy Reynolds and Vancouver K putting 80.755 on the board, and this pair, who got the worst of the draw after finishing an uncharacteristic 11th in the Grand Prix, were still out in front with just five of the 15 starters - all of them German - left to compete. 

Helen Langehanenberg demoted the Irish duo with a brilliant performance from her 17-year-old stallion Damsey FRH who danced up the centreline with foot-perfect tempi-changes to post 83.735. And when Dorothee Schneider and DSP Sammy Davis Jr slotted in close behind with 83.395 and Benjamin Werndl and Daily Mirror scored 80.900 then it was 2013 series champion Langehanenberg who was still in command with just two left to run.

But Benjamin’s sister, 33-year-old Jessica, turned the class on it’s head with a technically brilliant performance from Dalera that also sparkled. 

"She gave me a feeling I’ve never had before! In Rotterdam she was already amazing but today it felt even lighter and easier. Every piaffe was amazing, every transition every passage and pirouette, every half-pass…..I’m so excited about our future now!"

As Werth set off with her last-to-go ride however it seemed only a matter of form that she would overtake her compatriot’s score. But Weihegold’s test wasn’t clean, and despite a confident one-handed passage to finish, their mark of 87.240 would only be good enough for runner-up spot. “I had super piaffe/passage but had two little mistakes. I maybe risked too much - Jessica deserves to win tonight”, said the five-time champion who is chasing down four titles in a row.

“Stuttgart is one of the toughest qualifiers for the World Cup so it feels like winning at Aachen or at a Championship! I couldn’t be more happy, I knew this was possible but it’s still like a dream come true!” said von Bredow-Werndl.  She’s aiming for the series Final in Las Vegas, USA next April but not with today’s winning ride. “I want to take Zaire to Las Vegas, and I’m trying to prepare Dalera for the Olympics next summer. Tokyo is already for sure somewhere in my head, and I would be delighted to be part of Team Germany there”, she pointed out. 

The top nine on the Western European League will qualify for the FEI Dressage World Cup™ 2020 Final, and after the first three qualifiers the leading four on the league table are all Germans - von Bredow-Werndl and Frederic Wandres sharing pole position followed by Langehanenberg in third and Benjamin Werndl in fourth place.

The next leg will take place in Madrid (ESP) in two weeks’ time.

Four World Championships disciplines in 2022 for Denmark (FEI press release)

FEI announces hosts for World Championships and World Cup Finals

 Host cities for the FEI World Championships 2022 and other major events up to 2023/2024 were allocated today by the FEI Board at its in-person meeting in the Russian capital Moscow.

 FEI World Championships in four disciplines: Jumping, Dressage, Para Dressage and Vaulting will be staged in Herning (DEN) in August 2022. The Danish city, which runs a qualifier for the FEI Dressage World Cup™ annually, previously hosted a multi-discipline equestrian event in 2013 when it staged the FEI European Championships for Jumping, Dressage and Para-Dressage. 

 Pratoni del Vivaro (ITA), venue for the Eventing discipline at the Rome 1960 Olympic Games, will host FEI World Championships for Eventing and Driving in September 2022. The Italian venue, located 35 kilometres south of Rome, is no stranger to hosting high-level equestrian events and FEI Championships. It was the site for the cross country competition at the FEI World Equestrian Games™ 1998 and hosted the FEI World Driving Championships for Singles in 2006 and 2010. 

 “When we opened the process for the FEI World Championships 2022 to single and multi-discipline bids, our intention was to have events that were more manageable and sustainable at proven venues,” FEI Secretary General Sabrina Ibáñez said. “By allocating these multi-discipline Championships to Herning and Pratoni del Vivaro we’re working with hosts that already have the necessary experience and required infrastructure in place to organise world-class equestrian championships.

 “We received some truly excellent bids and unfortunately we don’t have enough FEI World Championships to allocate to everyone, but we very much hope that these excellent organisers will bid again in the future to host championships at their venues.”

 The World Championships 2022 in the Olympic and Paralympic disciplines of Jumping, Eventing, Dressage and Para Dressage, will serve as qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. 

 The FEI Board agreed unanimously that any decision on the FEI World Championships in Endurance and Reining should be postponed pending the outcome of discussions about both disciplines on 18 November and voting on 19 November.

 The FEI Board also allocated FEI World Cup™ Finals for 2022 to 2024, with Leipzig (GER) once again hosting four FEI World Cup™ Finals under one roof from 6-10 April 2022. The German city previously hosted the same four disciplines – Jumping, Dressage, Driving and Vaulting – in 2011.

The FEI World Cup™ Finals for Jumping and Dressage will return to Omaha (USA) in 2023 (12-16 April), and the FEI World Cup™ Finals 2024 for Jumping and Dressage were allocated to Riyadh (KSA). Dates for the FEI World Cup™ Finals 2024 in Riyadh will be confirmed. Bordeaux (FRA) will host the FEI Driving World Cup™ Finals in both 2023 (2-5 February) and 2024 (1-4 February).

The bidding process for the FEI Vaulting World Cup™ Finals 2023 and 2024 will be reopened.

In addition, the Board allocated qualifiers for the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ series, FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ Youth 2020 and FEI Eventing Nations Cup™ 2020, FEI Jumping Ponies Trophy™ 2020 qualifiers and Finals and other Championships.

Personal best and strong victory for Lisa Müller with her 12 year old Stedinger / De Niro gelding Stand by Me OLD.

Power trot tour with top expression, passage with huge elasticity and super balance which Lisa is able to bring into the piaffe and keeping the same rhythm as the passage just at the spot, with additionally transitions with power and top balance. The walk tour is good and she manage to keep him focused even though the ultimate relaxation is missing. The canter tour with some tensions and a few technical issues, but Lisa still manage to keep it all together. The final centerline is just outstanding - judge for yourself below.

For both stallions Franziskus and Escolar it looks like some kind of compromise from their riders, Ingrid Klimke and Hubertus Schmidt, as they are both presented in a bit too open frame and for some moments lacking the 100% honest push and go from behind for the collected work.

Emilio and Werth had some technical issues today (placed 5th)

Emilio GER - backwards trend halt, well balanced diagonal, good half passes lack bit carriage, bit cautious halt with rein back, power diagonal, nice into passage, tensions/resistance for begin of piaffe but settled, bit unbalanced extended walk tour, small tensions for 2nd piaffe, good passage, good transitions, good into canter, nice 2 times, error end extended canter - take self change, good zigzag, good 1 times, good pirouettes, power diagonal, super smooth final centerline.

Personal best

For both Marcus Hermes and Charlotte Fry it was with personal best scores today placed 4th and 6th with 74,652% and 73,652%.

The 9 year old gelding ZINQ Abegglen FH, and the 10 year old KWPN stallion Everdale are both shown with nicely closed frames for their performances, with a bit hot tendency from Abegglen during the test and a very obedient Everdale playing along all the way today.

Super interesting young horses for the future.

Top 6 with German combinations

It became kind of internal competition for the German combinations today in Stuttgart, and they all went for it. It was clearly a very motivated field of competitors today, where you got a lot of positive tensions where you could see that every single rider was fighting for the points.

Winner Werth showed a very motivated Weihegold OLD, and it was clearly that Werth was keen to make a clear test. For the canter tour Werth really had to show her own strength, as ex the extended canter was with risk but at the same time Werth looked determined not to make Weihe do the change in the middel of the exercise, likewise the series where Weihegold were challenging Werth a bit, being kind of over motivated, but Werth kept the control all the way.

For Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and her power mare TST Dalera BB it was just about the margins from taking the victory from Werth and Weihegold OLD, but said that it is about 10 points more from each of the judges. And today she could have scored a bit higher at entering halt, collected walk tour and both series, but no technical issues and she was also really going for it.

Placed 3rd Dorothee Schneider showed also a top motivated Sammy Davis Jr, where she was performing with full risk for the extensions and series, and with only smaller issues with the change at X between the pirouettes where Sammy made a couple of extra changes.

Best outside the German top 6 was British Charlotte Fry with Dark Legend

History

SICAB, the International Purebred Spanish Horse Trade Fair is the most important simple of PRE Horses in the world. It has been held in the city of Sevilla (Spain) since 1991, which makes it a reference on the national and international equestrian scene as it brings together PRE breeders and owners from more than sixty (60) countries.

SICAB is held annually during the third week of November. More than a thousand Purebred Spanish Horses from more than 300 national and international stud farms are entered in the many categories. Throughout the week, more than 200,000 people come to venue, which in turn, generate wealth for the city of Sevilla, thus making this experience the third most important events held in the city, behind Easter Week and the April Fair.

SICAB celebrates the World Purebred Spanish Horse Championship. To participate in this final, a horse will have had to qualify previously at any of the preliminary competitions held throughout the previous season. Likewise, this umbrella event is home of the ANCCE Cup for Dressage, Doma Vaquera, Spanish High School, Carriage Driving and Show Jumping, in addition to the Exhibition Competitions and the Equestrian Show. This latter is an eye-catching and impressive event thanks to the lights, sound and acrobatic movements of the many riders with the PRE Horses.

This years first Dutch stallion competition took place at Kronenberg yesterday, and as always it is interesting to follow the young stallions and their development.

Among the 4 year old stallions which was the largest group of stallions for the stallion competition, there were specific two stallions which caught H2R attention, Van Olst Horses stallion Kjento by Negro / Jazz with Charlotte Fry and Glock´s King Karim by Glock´s Toto Jr / Painted Black which came 2nd and 3rd for the stallion competition. Both stallions quick movers off the ground showing super expression and power in all 3 gaits.

And today’s top horse is a horse with all 3 basic gaits, expression, power and suppleness, all put together for the demanding top sport. It was certainly not just top 3 showing top qualities.

Today Anne managed to keep Kipling focused all the way and showing a powerful and expressive test without any technical issues. Lovely balanced trot tour all the way, good walk and solid canter tour, showing a bit of tensions for some moments, but Anne manage to keep Kipling focused.
