FEI Dressage World Cup™ WEL 2019/2020: Invincible Isabell makes it five-in-a-row at Amsterdam
Weihegold produces flawless performance on road to 2020 Final
The partnership that has claimed the FEI Dressage World Cup™ title for the last three years, Germany’s Isabell Werth and Weihegold OLD, proved unbeatable at the eighth leg of the Western European League 2019/2020 qualifying series in Amsterdam (NED) today.
In an awe-inspiring line-up it was Great Britain’s Charlotte Dujardin, series champion in 2014 and 2015, who finished second with Mount St John Freestyle while 2010 title-holder, The Netherlands’ Edward Gal, slotted into third with a stunning ride on the stallion Glock’s Zonik NOP.
This was Werth’s fifth consecutive victory at the Dutch venue, and making it all the more significant for the German superstar was the fact that every one of those wins has been recorded with the brilliant mare who also carried her to team gold at the Rio Olympic Games.
"It all started for Weihe and me when we won the World Cup here in 2016, so Amsterdam has always been a special show for us. From here we went up and up in the sport, and it’s amazing to still have have her feeling so good and motivated and engaged with me when she is 15 years old. It was a super atmosphere again today, the crowd were so emotional and they were on their feet when we finished so we really enjoyed that!"
Isabell Werth (GER)
The sparkling start-list included many of the sport’s rising stars along with six previous champions. And it was Werth’s compatriot and 2013 series winner Helen Langehanenberg who held the lead at the halfway stage following a super test from her 18-year-old campaigner Damsey FRH who effortlessly executed a long series of perfect pirouettes on his way to putting 84.380 on the board.
Third in after the break however, Gal and Zonik wowed the home crowd with a dramatic test that went into the lead with 85.385. But, fourth-last to go, Werth and Weihegold changed everything when scoring over 90 percent. “It was my first time over 90 in Amsterdam but I had Charlotte coming in behind me so I had to be as good as possible because I knew she was going for it!”, said the rider who had posted a massive 90.280.
And indeed Dujardin didn’t hold back, opening her floorplan with jaw-dropping extended trot and never looking back.
"I knew I had quite a score to beat, but my horse felt good and I tried my best to give her the most confidence possible. This is only her third onsite show. Coming in today I knew I had to go for it and try my best and I was really pleased - this is the best she’s ever been!"
Charlotte Dujardin (GBR)
said the British rider who posted a superb 89.505 which couldn’t be beaten for runner-up spot.
The clash between Dujardin and Werth has now become the most mesmerising in the sport. Can the undisputed Queen from German hold onto her crown, or will Dujardin, who was all but untouchable during her reign with the great Valegro when she set and re-set multiple world records, eventually push her off her throne?
It is all set to play itself out as this year progresses, and with Dujardin now well-qualified for the Final in Las Vegas (USA) in April that looks set to be a cracker. Werth plans to take Weihegold once again, and should they succeed in making it four titles in a row then they will be the very first partnership to do so in the 35-year history of the prestigious FEI Dressage World Cup™ series.
Before all that however there are three more Western European League qualifiers left to run, at Neumunster (GER) in three weeks’ time where Werth again plans to compete, at Gothenburg (SWE) at the end of February and in ’s-Hertogenbosch (NED) in March.

Championship mood
Impressive lineup for today’s World Cup Grand Prix at Jumping Amsterdam.
Top 3 (H2R comments during the tests)
Watch out Werth when Dujardin is able to polish the piaffe tours a bit more she will pass you and Weihe.
Today’s test from Werth was kind of building up for the final, when getting into the canter tour she just build up for the final with a very strong canter tour, and finishing this part with superb pirouettes, and then doing a final centerline with outstanding qualities.
Weihegold OLD GER - good halt, conservative diagonal, half pass right lack bit more forward flow, left good, super halt with rein back, good diagonal, sharp into passage, smooth piaffe and transitions, bit unbalanced walk tour, nice transition to passage, super passage, nice piaffe but not with same sit as usual, good into canter, good 2 times, super extended canter, good zigzag, good 1 times, SUPERB 1st pirouette, very nice 2nd pirouette, good transition to trot, limited extension at diagonal, 🔥FIRE ON THE GROUND final centerline.
MSJ Freestyle GBR - good halt, POWER balanced diagonal, well balanced half passes, super halt with rein back, WAUW diagonal, smooth passage, tiny double beat step for 1st piaffe, good passage, super walk tour good relaxed extended walk, good transition to passage, 9-10 steps for 2nd piaffe, good transition to canter, nice 2 times, super extended canter, WAUW zigzag, error hind end of 1 times, bit turn for 1st pirouette, much better balance and control 2nd pirouette, good into trot, power diagonal, super passage, bit two tempi of final piaffe.
Desperado NED - nice halt, power expressive diagonal, good half passes but lack more bending left, bit tense rein back, good extension, good transition to passage, good piaffe, bit tension hind passage, super walk tour, good transition to passage, good 2nd piaffe nice activity, good transitions, nice transition to canter, big 2 times, power extended canter lovely coming back change over the hind quarters, good zigzag, tension hind for 1 times bit crop high, super control and sit for both pirouettes, good transition to trot, power diagonal, very nice and smooth final.
Impressive motivation and strong Dutch performances
Common for the three stallions at start for The Netherlands were top motivation today. Danish Warmblood stallion Glock´s Zonik was showing his best performance ever together with Edward Gal. Very nice piaffe tours with good transition and expressive passage, the overall picture was with clearly improved go and flow and obedience.
Hans Peter Minderhoud and Glock´s Dream Boy really went for it today, unfortunately with a few mistakes but still lots of power and expression all the way.
And Emmelie Scholtens and Desperado were also on fire with a very strong test without any technical issues.
For Adelinde Cornelissen with Zephyr it was also an improved test when watching the piaffe tours, as this exercise has been their weak point.
British Fry showed a very strong performance together with KWPN stallion Everdale, superb 1st piaffe AT THE SPOT, lots of expression and power without any technical issues, unfortunately the final centerline looked a bit like Fry was lacking a bit focus herself.
Sönke Rothenberger was at start with 12 year old Santiano R by San Amour/Lord Sinclair. Back in April last year they’ve made their international debut at Nieuw en Sint Joosland, and then they were at start in Wiesbaden, and later in September made their World Cup debut at Budapest. They showed a good test where Sönke is able to manage the not so strong piaffe tours in a very nice way.
Danish Lone Bang Larsen with Bakkely´s Onandt showed an error free test, unfortunately starting with a very tense entering halt, but from there a nice well performed test. They are also ready among the 15 combinations for the freestyle.

Subli Cup finals for young horses and national Prix St. Georg yesterday at international event Jumping Amsterdam
Glock´s Total US and Edward Gal winner of national Prix St. Georg - photo credit: Timo Martis
Subli Cup finals
Already yesterday evening the spectators were ready in the huge RAI arena in Amsterdam.
The five best Dutch 4 year old and 5 year old horses were ready for the Subli-Cup finals, including PAVO Cup winners 2019 Keano RS2 by Governor/Krack C and Johnny Depp by Bordeaux/Jazz.
For the 4 year old (now 5 year old) the Keano RS2 with Marieke van der Putten showed good qualities, like also Jonny Depp (now 6 year old) with Renate van Uytert-van Vliet showed a super test, Johnny Depp is a beautiful stallion with a lovely natural closed frame without being short in the neck, and he is showing three supple well balanced quality gaits.
Van Olst Horses rider Charlotte Fry was also at the final with the 5 year old Jeroen Leatherdale by Lord Leatherdale / Negro, another quality horse with an outstanding canter, unfortunately the huge environment did affect the performance with some tensions and they finished 5th.
A strong national Prix St. Georg class
14 combinations were ready for the national Prix St. Georg, but for most people one combination was of course in the spotlight, 8 year old Totilas / Sir Donnerhall I son Glock´s Total US with Edward Gal in the saddle. And they did not disappoint. A 75% test still with room for improvement.
H2R comments during the test:
Glock´s Total US - open halt dropping behind the hand, good diagonal, small unbalance for shoulder in, nice volte and half pass, good diagonal, well balanced shoulder in, nice volte and super half pass to right, super collected walk, marching and active, good walk pirouettes, some disturbing for extended walk shaking the head more times, well balanced canter half passes, nice balance and sit for both pirouettes, good 4 times, good 3 times, good extended canter change lack bit more jump of the ground.
Some of the other combinations which caught H2R attention:
Endyrava DC (2009 gelding by Lord Leatherdale/Monaca) with Corinda Luttjeboer - lovely power horse showing an easy active test with good qualities.
Finnländerin (2010 mare by Fidertanz/Donnerhall) with Madeleine Witte-Vrees - nice power test without any technical issues, just both halts showing some tensions. Unfortunately most of the test with open mouth. (Purchased last year as future GP hope for Madeleine With-Vrees).
Great Lady TC (2011 mare by Bretton Woods/Osmium) - nice flow test with good suppleness, superb extended walk, minor moments of loosing the collection for the canter tour. (Former WCYH participant in 2016 and 2017).
Toskira (2012 mare by Sir Donnerhall I/Rubinstein I) with Marieke van der Putten - expressive trot tour with nice suppleness, limited walk tour, bit tense canter tour, lost 1st change after 1st pirouette, looks like a tongue problems at the end of the test. (PSI auction 2016)
Foundation RR (2010 KWPN stallion by United/Jazz-same dam as Johnny Depp) with Kirsten Brouwer - very nice overall picture, good walk tour, super nice series, tension final change at 3 times.
The top international judging panel with H: Mariette Sanders-van Gansewinkel C: Susanne Baarup B: Susan Hoevenaars did often not agree about the combinations throughout the class, more times with a difference of 4%.

Straight Horse opruster med to nye top avlshopper

Atterupgaards Delorean and Selina Solberg Vittinghus shines at M-level today

Young talented horses
When you see a super mover as ex 4 year old, it is all about the future training and being able to develop the talent to more than just a big mover.
One of them is for sure the super mare Atterupgaards Delorean. She is now getting her experience at M-level and will for sure be ready for 7 year old level later this year.
Young Kristian Würtz Green was placed with two horses today. He showed his horses in a very nice way, nice frame, good contact and well balanced, just some minor things kept him away from the absolute top spot today. Both horses are still quite green at this level.

KWPN stallion Franklin winner of Prix St. Georg and Fürstenblick winner of Intermediaire I
Franklin and Betina Jæger Jensen - photo credit: H2R
Prix St. Georg
Helgstrand Dressage rider Betina Jæger Jensen and the 10 year old KWPN stallion Franklin by Ampere / Ferro are really showing their qualities together. Franklin is very focused in the arena and showing impressive power and suppleness for the trot work, the walk is good with clear beat all the time, while the canter for some moments mainly for the series becomes a bit tense, but all the way well managed from Betina. No doubt we will see much from them at the competitions, but might be just early spring or autumn, as Franklin is highly frequented by the breeders during the breeding season.
Young Alexander Helgstrand shows really nice tests, and his timing and way of showing the horses seems to be very sharp considering his young age. This weekend for the first time with two small tour horses, as he just moved up late last year from pony to junior level, and now showing two horses at young rider level, this weekend debut together with Fiorano.
Ditte Mikkelsen is very experienced at this level and shows with the big Quaterback son, Quite a Look Ovenskov that she is able to collect valuable points all the way, unfortunately the walk tour keeping the out of the absolute top of the field today.
H2R favourite of today’s Prix St. Georg was 9 year old S.O.A.L by Sorento with Carina Cassøe Krüth. A very complete horse. Supple mover in all 3 gaits, lovely power expression and no weaknesses, but still a little green for the series. A very exciting horse for the future.
See the entire results here.
Intermédiaire I
Anne Troensegaard and Fürstenblick by Fürstenball showed a strong test, and the big gelding is really working together with and for Anne all the way. Super power and timing from experienced Anne Troensegaard.
Another experienced lady in top of the field was Betina Laisbo with Danish Warmblood gold medal mare Gørklintgårds Brody, showing a supple and effortless test.
Hardworking Atterupgaard rider Selina Solberg Vittinghus has really developed the now 10 year old Krack C son Atterupgaards Kawasaki, and he now shows great qualities at this level.
Both Anne Troensegaard and Selina Solberg Vittinghus are regularly trained by Rune Willum.

Debut Grand Prix Special victory for 8 year old Ferrari OLD and Andreas Helgstrand
Ferrari OLD and Andreas Helgstrand - photo credit: Lily Forado
Yesterday with Grand Prix debut and 2nd place - today with Grand Prix Special debut and victory
Even though it was their 2nd debut this weekend they looked more comfortable for today’s Grand Prix Special. The just 8 year old big stallion fits perfectly Andreas Helgstrand, and Ferrari looks like an obedient and talented horse without any weaknesses, the only “weak” point for now is lack of experience.
H2R running comments from today’s test:
Ferrari OLD/Andreas Helgstrand - good halt, good self carriage for half pass left, nice quality of the passage with good expression, good half pass right, good transitions in and out of extensions, good walk tour, nice 1st piaffe, good passage, 2nd piaffe need to take more weight hind, good transition to canter, good canter half passes, good 2 times, good 1 times (2 extra?), bit conservative extended canter, error end of 9 one times with big smiling Andreas, good 2nd pirouette, Helgstrand checking out the quality in the mirror for the final very nice piaffe. 72,255%
Again today Helene Melsen showed her two horses with good performances and came 2nd and 3rd. Her long time partner Aston Martin has just been improving the last couple of events. More expressive, more supple and more obedient the overall picture.
VIDEO - National Grand Prix debut victory for 9 year old Blue Hors St. Schufro with Nanna Merrald
Blue Hors St. Schufro and Nanna Merrald
74,800% Grand Prix debut
Well prepared, expressive and effortless debut for 9 year old Blue Hors St. Schufro with Nanna Merrald in the saddle to at the Danish national event at Esbjerg.
Light and easy test, expressive extensions, supple half passes, nice rhythm and angles for the piaffe tours, good expressive passage, very nice relaxation for the walk tour, good canter tour even though still showing some tensions Nanna manage to keep him focused all the way without any technical issues. A very attractive combination for the future. Watch the test HERE.
Also the 8 year old Ferrari OLD with Andreas Helgstrand made their Grand Prix debut today. The big powerful stallion showing good qualities all the way, minor insecurities for the piaffe tours, and small issues at the end of the 2 times and also a small issue going into the 1 times.
Helene Melsen came both 3rd and 4th. Aston Martin showing a strong test without any technical issues, but showing some tensions for the first piaffe, while she also showed a technical strong test with Adrenalin Firfod.
Nanna Merrald was also placed with her 2nd horse Blue Hors Zick Flower, with a few technical issues.
