TSF Dalera BB and Jessica von Bredow-Werndl with 80,826% CDI4 Grand Prix victory today at Donaueschingen

Top performance = +80%

For Jessica and Dalera this was their 2nd +80% Grand Prix test, first time was back in February at World Cup in Neumünster with 81,500%. Strong strong well balanced test, for the tiny details the passage tours were showing a bit tensions hind, but the final centerline was with really World Class balance, power and expression.

Laura Tomlinson with just 3rd international GP with DSP Rose of Bavaria

Placed 4th today was British Laura Tomlinson with her just 10 year old Bordeaux daughter Rose of Bavaria. They start their test with a very expensive entering halt where Rose just decide to make a turn before Laura straight away bring her back on the centerline to start their test. From first impression the tongue unfortunately look a bit visible a the right side with slight open mouth, the first extensions at the diagonal lacking bit more clear balance, half passes with nice bending but becomes slow and lacking more lightness in the hand, nice halt with rein back, good diagonal, nice into expressive passage, smooth transitions and active piaffe at the spot, extended walk need more let go and stretching over the back, active collected walk in good rhythm, superb transition to passage at M, super suspension and regularity for the passage, active into piaffe, superb piaffe and easy active out, nice transition to canter, good 2 times tiny swinging, nice extended canter with change at the diagonal, zigzag bit unbalanced and Rose becomes very hard in the contact, super nice 1 times but unfortunately an error at the end, 1st pirouette with good balance and 2nd with outstanding balance and quality, good transition to trot, nice diagonal and very sharp final centerline.

D’avie sold to Germany

Lisa and Thomas Müller with D´avie.

Lisa and Thomas Müller with D´avie.

News at Helgstrand Dressage

Isabell Werth has been visiting Helgstrand Dressage to look for a horse that has the level for competing internationally with her student Lisa Müller. If you think the name sounds familiar, then it is because Lisa is married to the professional football player Thomas Müller, who plays for FC Bayern München.

Grand Prix rider, Lisa Müller has several international victories and her career really took a huge step forward, when Isabell Werth became her trainer in 2016 together with her long-time trainer Götz Brinkmann. This great combination led Lisa to numerous victories together with the horse Stand By Me (Stedinger/De Niro) up till international dressage and a place at the German national B-team. Now Lisa is very happy to add a fantastic Grand Prix horse to her collection, the double World Champion, and acknowledged breeding stallion D’avie.

- I am very pleased that Lisa shall take over the reins and together with Isabell Werth educate him further. He is still a young horse, but with all this potential, there is no limit to what he can achieve. We look very much forward to follow them on their way towards competing on international level, Andreas Helgstrand tells.

D’avie by Don Juan de Hus/Londonderry really has established his name when he together with the Spanish rider Severo Jurado López superior won the prestigious World Championship for Young Horses two years in a row for the 6- and 7-year-old-horses in Ermelo.

D’avie is a horse that has it all for the highest level of competing and also for being a successful breeding stallion. When you see his offspring, it is clear that he passes on his excellent expression, the modern type, and three exceptional gaits.

- D’avie has already shown his worth as a breeding stallion when we see his offspring. We have a corporation with Château de Fontaine in France – a project, that is led by Bolette Wandt. Here eggs from Queenpark’s Wendy have been taken out and we have therefore now seen the first embryo offspring with D’avie as the sire. And I promise you that the foal has exceptional quality! When you combine the best from to worlds, then you get the best result, Andreas tells and adds; the whole concept is to buy talented young horses, educate them, sell them when they are on their way forward in the sport and, very importantly, secure some good offspring from them.

D’avie will still be available for the breeders on terms that are very similar to Helgstrand’s. More information will follow when the new setup for the season 2021 is ready.

Jagten på OL-medaljer starter i Uggerhalne

Screen+Shot+2020-08-26+at+11.10.58.jpg

EQUITOUR PRESSEMEDDELELSE

Se tidplanen for stævnet her - https://denmark.equitour.dk/da/events/tidsplan-2020

Part of news article at psdressage.com

Alice Tarjan is no stranger to success at the championships and she added another 4-Year-Old National Champion tricolor to her wall with her win on her Danish Warmblood mare Gjenganger (Grand Galaxy Win–Donna Dee, Blue Hors Don Schufro). The pair received an 8.84 in the Preliminary Test earlier in the week, but the young mare was a bit tired in Saturday’s test and was docked points for curling behind the bit. Despite the occasional shortness of the neck, the judges praised Gjenganger as a “beautiful picture we enjoyed watching.” Her highest individual score of 9.0 came from her bounding, expressive canter and her total for her second test was 8.54, which was enough for her to seal the win.

Tarjan not only played the role of rider in the division, but she also was a proud owner of the reserve champion, Glory Day (Grand Galaxy Win–JJ Dolche Gabbana, Deemster).
Ridden by Marcus Orlob, Glory Day moved up from Day 1’s third place with his top quality performance in the final test, scoring the highest of the day, with an 8.84. The stallion was more confident and relaxed in the ring, allowing Orlob to showcase his powerful 9.1 canter and 9.0 trot.

“He was more relaxed today so it made it easier for me to do my job and let him cruise around. The quality is amazing but he’s green and spooky,” Orlob said. “I’m proud of him. It’s very nice [to win reserve alongside his owner]. Alice is the king of the young horses and it’s an honor to ride this horse. It got close but it’s ok to be behind Alice. She can win!”

Tarjan typically develops her string of young horses herself as she enjoys the progress and building relationships with her mounts from a young age. However, Glory Day proved to be a bit too overpowering and she invited Orlob to take over the reins in November 2019.

“I’m really happy for Marcus and Glory. He’s doing a great job with that horse. We brought the horse over last year and he’s a stallion. He was quite good for a while but he started getting a little feisty and he was more than I wanted to ride,” Tarjan explained. “I love watching Glory. He’s very dynamic.

Small clip from Danish Warmblood stallion pre-selection in 2018 of JJ Glory Days:

FEI PRESS RELEASE - U25 and Young Riders produce stunning sport

Dutch take four of the six titles on offer

If the stunning Freestyle performances that brought week 2 of the FEI Dressage European Youth Championships 2020 to a close at Pilisjàszfalu in Hungary today are anything to go by, then the future of European Dressage is in very safe hands. Both the U25 and Young Riders athletes and their horses presented top sport and demonstrated an abundance of promise all week, with The Netherlands, Germany and Denmark sharing U25 gold but the Dutch completely dominating the top step of the Young Riders podium.

U25

There was a fairytale finish to the U25 Championship today when Denmark’s Anne-Mette Strandby Hansen steered Foco Loco W to Freestyle gold. The 15-year-old gelding made a dream come true for his owner, Dominican Republic’s Yvonne Losos de Muniz, when he carried her to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games where they finished 59th individually. And after sealing victory today, Strandby Hansen said, “I’m so lucky I got to ride this horse and it’s unbelievable what he did for me - he has a heart of gold!”. It was indeed an extraordinary achievement because this was the Danish rider’s championship debut, and she sparkled.

The pair helped Denmark to bronze medal position in Tuesday’s team finale in which The Netherlands claimed gold despite elimination for Mercedes Verweij. It was the top score of 74.765 produced by Jeanine Nieuwenhuis and TC Athene that clinched it for the Dutch when added to 72.882 from Jasmien de Koeyer and Esperanza and 71.647 from Febe van Swambagt and Edison. Germany claimed silver bolstered by the second-ranked score of the competition from Ann-Kathrin Lindner and FBW Sunfire who put 74.588 on the board.

Turned the tables

Lindner, U25 team gold medallist last summer, turned the tables when pipping Nieuwenhuis for the Individual title the following day while Germany’s Raphael Netz steered Lacoste 126 into bronze with a charming ride. Strandby Hansen missed out on a podium placing when lining up in fourth, but a stand-out performance today saw them awarded 79.025 by judges Paula Nysten (FIN), Peter Hansaghy (HUN), Henning Lehrmann (GER), Elisabeth Max-Theurer (AUT) and Annette Fransen Iacobaeus (SWE) for Freestyle gold. Nieuwenhuis claimed silver on 78.450 while Lindner slotted into bronze medal spot on 77.610.

Foco Loco W, whose stable-name is Dobby, simply smiled his way through today’s winning test, making every movement look as easy as can be. He listened to his rider from beginning to end, presenting lovely tempi changes, piaffe, passage and pirouettes and the only time he was the tiniest bit naughty was when he spooked when someone waved a Danish flag in celebration after he left the arena.

He remained at the Helgstrand Dressage stables in Denmark after Yvonne Losos de Muniz last competed him at the FEI Dressage World Cup™ qualifier in Herning (DEN) in October 2019. And in November Strandby Hansen, who has been working at Helgstrand for the last two years, got the ride on the horse who took individual silver for Losos de Muniz at the Central American & Caribbean Games in Veracruz, Mexico back in 2014.

Partnership

They’ve been building their partnership together ever since, but today’s Freestyle was a first for the Danish rider, and it’s one she will never forget. “I only got the floorplan last Monday and I rode it just once at home before coming here, I never competed in a Grand Prix Freestyle before!” the delighted rider said.

Foco Loco is at Helgstrand “for training and sale”, and Strandby Hansen, who rides everything from three-year-old stallions to top-level horses, says he has a heart of gold and is a bit of a show-off.

"He is so well behaved but still has the fire to do his work, and he loves it. When people started whistling at the end (of the test) he just lifted his legs higher and higher! And today it was so warm, over 30 degrees, but he still kept on fighting for me"

Anne-Mette Strandby Hansen (DEN)

said the rider who is now looking forward to moving up to Senior level.

Young Riders

The Netherlands’ Young Rider team was also reduced to just three, this time due to the elimination of Thalia Rockx and Golden Dancer de la Fazenda. However, just like their U25 counterparts, the rest of the Riders in Orange didn’t let that stop their country from coming out on top thanks to solid performances from Quinty Vassers, Daphne van Peperstraten and Marten Luiten.

Their score of 222.940 was good enough to edge Germany’s Henriette Schmidt (Rocky’s Sunshine), Luca Sophia Collin (Descolari and Lia Welschof (First Class 88) into silver on a score of 222.030, while 215.794 sealed the bronze for Denmark. And once they got the bit between their teeth the Dutch went on to make it a hat-trick of Young Rider gold when adding the Individual and Freestyle titles.

Judges Kurt Christensen (DEN), Maria Colliander (FIN), Evi Eisenhardt (GER), Eduard de Wolff van Westerrode (NED0 and Eva-Maria Vint-Warmington (EST) were in complete agreement when placing 18-year-old Luiten, a double-silver medallist at Junior level last year, at the top of the Individual scoreboard with the 10-year-old mare Fynona on a mark of 77.559. Germany’s Welschof took silver while Luiten’s team-mate, van Paperstraten, claimed the bronze with Greenpoints Cupido.

However van Peperstraten threw down an extraordinary test for a score of 80.69 when fourth-last to go in today’s Freestyle, and when Luiten was one of several to make mistakes in his tempi-changes he had to settle for bronze behind Welschof.

Maturity

Van Paperstraten, gold medallist at the FEI Junior European Championships in Fontainebleau (FRA) in 2018 and at the FEI Young Riders European Championship at San Giovanni in Marignano (ITA) last summer, showed great maturity in her riding and was thrilled with the result.

“I was already so happy with how things went this week because the gold team medal was something I didn’t expect, and then yesterday I had a great feeling on Cupido and was super-happy with my test although it was a pity we had a mistake at the end. I was still very satisfied with my Individual bronze medal”, the 20-year-old rider explained. “So today I just wanted to enjoy my Freestyle. It was the first time to ride it in competition and I was excited to see how it would work out and fit with the music. When it all worked out I knew we had done a very good job and that’s the best feeling. I couldn’t be more happy!”

She rode a daring centreline of three-tempi changes to her final halt. “I knew that had to be good because if you make a mistake it’s not possible to win a European medal”, she pointed out. “We did it because it’s something different, and Cupi is always amazing in the canterwork. You have to take the risk if you want to take a medal!”

Next week the FEI European Pony Dressage Championships 2020 take centre stage at Pilisjàszfalu from 28 to 30 August.

Danish Anne-Mette Strandby Hansen - photo credit: Łukasz Kowalski

Danish Warmblood shows the way

At the national YH event U.S Dressage Festival for Champions taking place in Chicago, it is not just one or two Danish Warmblood horses in top - the entire podium in yesterday’s 4 year old class were Danish Warmblood horses.

Winner Alice Trajan with her own bred Danish Warmblood mare Gjenganger by Grand Galaxy Win/Blue Hors Don Schufro out of Donna Dee, originally purchased from her long time friend Vicki Nedergaard from Danish stud Nedergaard. Gjenganger was champion in Devon, Pennsylvania last year.

Watch the winning test here.

Placed 2nd Danish Warmblood Flambeau by Fürstenball/Zack with Marcus Orlob, bred by Norwegian Gjeteruds stutteri and sold as a foal to Norwegian JJ horses.

Placed 3rd Glory Day also ridden by Marcus Orlob. Glory Day is by Grand Galaxy Win / Deemster, and bred by JJ Horses in Norway.
