FEI & WBFSH Acknowledge Proposal to Further Support Sport Horse Breeders

The Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) and the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH) have discussed a proposal regarding the recognition and support of sport horse breeders within the international equestrian ecosystem, during its annual Council Meeting that took place on 17 June at the FEI Headquarters in Lausanne (SUI).

The FEI and WBFSH recognise the fundamental contribution of breeders to the development and long-term success of equestrian sport. They play a key role at the beginning of the sport horse value chain, assuming significant investment, risk, and long-term commitment to produce horses capable of competing at the highest levels.

This topic has been part of ongoing discussions between the FEI and the WBFSH. Both organisations acknowledge that evolving economic pressures, market dynamics, and increasing expectations in areas such as welfare and sustainability make it timely to continue reviewing this subject.

Both organisations consider this to be a broader strategic issue for the entire equestrian community, involving breeders, owners, athletes, and organisers, and requiring a collaborative and inclusive approach.

For this reason, the FEI will organise a dedicated session at the FEI Sports Forum 2027, taking place on 26 and 27 April in Lausanne (SUI). Relevant stakeholder representatives will be invited, and participants will have the opportunity to provide feedback with the aim of developing satisfactory and feasible proposals.
