International German rider Fabienne Müller-Lütkemeier getting ready with her next Grand Prix horse.
This time the very expressive and light-footed 10 year old Westfalian mare Valencia As by Vitalis / Hotline. The overall impression is powerful with lightness and super qualities, yet the walk still need a bit more suppleness as it gets a bit tense and unbalanced for some moments.
Fabienne also came 3rd with her other Vitalis offspring the gelding Valesco.
Unfortunately Fabienne and Valencia As were disqualified during the Inter II test Saturday as Valencia bite herself during the test.

Host cities for major FEI Youth Championships in 2021/22 announced
FEI PRESS RELEASE
Lausanne (SUI), 18 February 2021
Host cities for major FEI Youth Championships in 2021/22 announced
Host cities for the FEI Youth Jumping Competition* 2022 and this year’s FEI Dressage European Championship U25 have been finalised, with allocations agreed by the FEI Board at its videoconference meeting yesterday.
These important Youth Championships will both be hosted in Germany, with the FEI Youth Jumping Competition 2022 allocated to Aachen, and the FEI Dressage European Championship U25 to Hagen, two venues with enviable track records for organising top level events.
Following the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decision to postpone the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) 2022 in Dakar (SEN) until 2026, the FEI sought IOC agreement for a replacement competition. The new FEI Youth Jumping Competition 2022 will mean that young Jumping athletes aged 14-18 will still have the opportunity to participate in a global competition based on the unique YOG format.
“We were delighted the IOC supported the FEI initiative for a replacement equestrian competition for the Youth Olympic Games in 2022 and that it will be hosted at the world-famous showgrounds in Aachen”, FEI President Ingmar De Vos said. “The Youth are our future and we need to safeguard the development of youth engagement in equestrian sport and continue inspiring this new generation of athletes.
“Participation at the YOG is a significant motivating factor for athletes to stay in elite-level sport. Now we can offer the FEI Youth Jumping Competition 2022 as an alternative to the next YOG generation, which they would otherwise have lost with the postponement of Dakar 2022. And it allows us to promote the Olympic values with these young athletes in a truly global environment.”
The FEI Youth Jumping Competition (28 June to 3 July 2022) will follow the same format as the Equestrian Competition at the Youth Olympic Games, with 30 athletes from 30 nations across six continents participating in a continental team competition and an individual competition. As with YOG, all Athletes will compete on borrowed horses provided by the Organiser.
The FEI Dressage European Championship U25 in 2021, originally scheduled to run in Donaueschingen (GER), has been reallocated to Hagen (GER). Host of multiple championship-level events, Hagen was the venue used for the test event for the new Olympic formats in Jumping and Dressage in 2019.
The U25 Championship will run concurrently with the Senior FEI Dressage European Championships from 8–12 September 2021.
Expensive times for British Equestrian post-Brexit
Post-Brexit makes travelling with horses abroad for the British riders very expensive
This is reality for the British riders want to compete abroad. The costs of travelling horses to Europe post-Brexit has increased with respectively 318% travelling by ferry and 224% travelling by Eurotunnel.
Additionally you have to add both diesel, tolls and of course entry fees!

News at Helgstrand Dressage:
Maik Kanitzky from Gestüt Heidehof in Leipzig is the name behind the successful Sir Donnerhal I and his full brother Sir Donnerhall II (Sandro Hit/Donnerhall). Both of them has very impressive resumes. Sir Donnerhall I is offered at the exclusive Helgstrand-Schockemöhle stallion collection and Sir Donnerhall II has been in training at Helgstrand Dressage and is now successful in international Grand Prix classes with Morgan Barbançon. Maik Kanitzky har pivoted a bit and is now focusing on the dressage-league, where he has now secured the 2019 winner of the Danish Warmblood 35-day test, Atterupgaards Barcelo by Bon Coeur/Caprimond E.H.
At this moment, Maik Kanitzky is establishing a team at Gestüt Heidehof, who is responsible for the education of the horses. Master rider David Kunath is at the head of the team – he has during the past 11 years been self-employed and developed several horses to compete at S-level. Moreover, he has allied with some om the best young horse-riders, for example, Tessa Frank, who will now be in charge of the education of Barcelo.
- I tested several horses at Andreas’ place, but the very first round on Barcelo confirmed that he was the one. He has a great attitude, incredible rideability and three outstanding gaits that create a solid foundation for a future career in top sport, Tessa Frank expresses. Tessa has qualified several horses to the prestigious World Championships for young horses and also the German Bundeschampionat.
- With Maik’s high ambitions it is crucial to invest in the best possible horses, and they are undoubtedly to be found at Helgstrand. I am so impressed by the place as well as the fact that they could present so many horses that matched our requirements. Moreover, I am deeply thankful for the help I was provided since Andreas helped a lot through his teaching and training. Such a unique possibility, Tessa adds. She also expresses her gratitude to Maik for getting this outstanding possibility.
Atterupgaards Barcelo has left Helgstrand and is now located in Hamburg at Tessa’s place, where she will be in charge of the future education of this promising young horse.
Atterupgaards Barcelo is one among many successful offspring from Stutteri Atterupgaard. Barcelo’s dam, Atterupgaards Dicte, is the full sister to the legendary Olympics horse, Atterupgaards Cassidy. With Cathrine Dufuor in the saddle, Cassidy has won numerous medals for Denmark. Dicte is moreover the dam to two licensed stallions: Fassbinder and Atterupgaards Botticello. Fassbinder is the sire of the two successful ET-full sisters, Fiontina and the triple-world champion Fiontini, who is a part of the Danish initial squad with Andreas Helgstrand. Botticello, who also has been in the Helgstrand stables as a breeding stallion, is now prominently developing towards Grand Prix level with the Danish-born American rider, Charlotte Jorst.

IDOC and Para Officials join forces
PRESS RELEASE
The International Dressage Officials Club and the FEI Para Officials have now unanimously decided to work together to create the best conditions for all officials. IDOC has created a working group for Para Officials, led by FEI Para Dressage Judge General Marco Orsini, PD 5*, GER., who will also attend the IDOC Board Meetings.
The other members of the working group are:
Elke Ebert (GER) - - Judge: 5* Dressage and 5* Para Dressage
Carlos Lopes (POR) - - Judge: 4* Dressage and 5* Para Dressage
Kristi Wysocki (USA) - - Judge: 4* Dressage and 5* Para Dressage
Joelle Beier (LUX) - - Steward: L2 Dressage and L2 Para Dressage
Hans Christian Matthiesen, DEN, IDOC President: “It has been a long-standing wish to include the Para Officials in our club. I think it is important that we officials work in the same direction and under common flag to create the best conditions for the many hardworking officials. I hope that with the inclusion of the Para Officials, the International Dressage Officials Club will affirm its strong position as one of the most important stakeholder clubs within the FEI family. Over the years IDOC has proven to be a reliable and strong representative club for all Dressage Officials – and now with even stronger bonds to Para Dressage.”
Marco Orsini, GER, 5* Para Dressage Judge: “Many judges and stewards already hold qualifications both in Dressage and Para Dressage. Dressage and Para Dressage actually share the same basics and face the same challenges when it comes to education and officiating opportunities. In a way it was a logical step that the Para Officials would ask IDOC for cooperation and support. With IDOC it will surely be possible to align with Dressage more easily and efficiently. I am happy that the IDOC Board and GA have welcomed us so kindly and I am really looking forward to a fruitful cooperation.”

VIDEOS - Nanna Merrald with Blue Hors Farrell and Gørklintgårds Quater Boy
VIDEO - 80,73% national Grand Prix debut for 9 yr old Glock´s Total US and Edward Gal
Glock´s Total US and Edward Gal - photo @clipmyhorse
Edward Gal at start today at Tolbert for Dutch observation event with both Glock´s Toto jr. N.O.P. (Totilas / Desperados FRH) and debut for just 9 yr old Glock´s Total US (Totilas / Sir Donnerhall I), and what a debut! Enjoy here below.
The scoreboard seems very hot after Gal´s first performance with Toto Jr with 79,71% and with an outstanding debut with top qualities it was obvious that it should be a higher score for 9 year old Total US today.
Btw impressive list of Grand Prix combinations for today’s class, except a few foreigners the field was counting 30 Dutch combinations.
2nd placed Glock´s Toto Jr with 79,71%
Danish Nanna Merrald takes 5 international victories at Le Mans and now with 3 horses with 1st Olympic qualifier
Proud Team Blue Hors at Le Mans after a very successful weekend - grooms Gitte Fabrin Hansen and Elin Glinvad Nielsen together with rider Nanna Skodborg Merrald. Private photo.
Impressive weekend for Nanna Merrald with 4 horses
5 victories out of 6 starts at the international event at Le Mans this weekend must be approved.
Nanna made her international debut at Grand Prix level with 10 yr old Blue Hors St. Schufro by St. Moritz Jr / Blue Hors Don Schufro, unfortunately this time with to many mistakes but still a lot of top qualities for the future, so we can´t wait to see them next time. Nanna produced St. Schufro herself from small tour level to Grand Prix level.
The successful 17 yr old Blue Hors Zack by Rousseau / Jazz was also out for the first time together with Nanna this weekend. Nanna really nailed it and showed her own top skills taking over the successful stallion from former Blue Hors rider Daniel Bachmann Andersen, and she not just took over, she really managed to show the experienced stallion in a very positive and effortless way. They really suit each other in the arena and look like that they already built up a great partnership.
H2R comments during the Grand Prix Special:
Blue Hors Zack - 74,362% - Good halt, power diagonal, super nice side picture, supple half pass with flow to left uphill, good transition to passage at C, nice smooth in and out passage/extensions, supple half pass right uphill nice carriage, nice contact steady foaming mouth, extended walk lack bit more energy, good collected walk, good 1st piaffe tiny forward trend, good transitions, good rhythm could show bit more activity off the ground, good into canter, supple half passes well balanced, error end 2 times with a 1 time, 15 or 17 one times? good extended canter, good quality pirouettes bit big, nice one times, good into trot, very nice and smooth final centerline. Great GPS debut!
Common for both Nanna´s Grand Prix performances at Le Mans is that she now obtained the first out of two required minimum qualifications for the Olympics, like she back in January at Salzburg showed Atterupgaards Orthilia for the first time and also here she obtained her first Olympic qualification.
The Olympic qualification rules:
A minimum 66% must be attributed twice to the Athlete/Horse combination by both a 5* star judge and as an average from all judges in the competition, and the score must be achieved in a Grand Prix test at two different CDI3*/CDI4*/CDI5*/CDI-W/CDIO events. The two 5* judges must be of a nationality other than of the Athlete.
CDI2 Medium Tour and Small Tour
For the CDI2 Medium Tour Nanna brought her long time partner 12 yr old gelding Gørklintgårds Quater Boy by Quaterback / Blue Hors Don Schufro and successfully won both Intermediaire B and Intermediaire II.
Together with 10 yr old stallion Blue Hors Farrell by Fürstenball / Dacaprio Nanna won the Prix St. Georg an unfortunately Farrell kicked himself at the warm up for today’s Intermediaire I, and Nanna had to withdraw him.
Bit early for the freestyle
As it was Nanna´s first ever competition together with Blue Hors Zack and her international Grand Prix debut with Blue Hors St. Schufro she did not fell that she was ready for bringing either of them for the freestyle, so therefore today Saturday was their final day at Le Mans.
No doubt the way back to Denmark will be kind of an easy trip with such a successful weekend.
