FEI PRESS RELEASE - Dynamic Dalera takes Neumünster honours for von Bredow-Werndl

The star German partnership of Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and her fabulous mare TSF Dalera BB reigned supreme at the fifth leg of the FEI Dressage World Cup™ 2021/2022 Western European League on home soil at Neumünster today. The pair who dominated the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games last July before going on to sweep another three gold medals at the FEI Dressage European Championships 2021 in Hagen (GER) two months later showed exactly why they stand top of the world rankings when posting today’s winning score of 90.615.

The starting field was reduced to 13 following the withdrawal of two top German contenders, Helen Langehanenberg (Annabelle) and Benjamin Werndl (Famoso OLD), but the competition was keen from the outset and Danish riders really rose to the challenge when finishing second, third and fourth.

Sixth to go, Australia’s Kirsty Oatley left the arena in tears for all the right reasons after posting an emotional personal-best 79.840 with her chestnut gelding Du Soleil whose fancy footwork belied his 18 years, and this pair were out in front going into the second half of the competition.

After the break

Swedish showman and Oatley’s brother-in-law, Patrik Kittel, took over the lead when first into the arena after the break when scoring 81.325 with his relatively new ride Blue Hors Zepter before Germany’s Isabell Werth  - chasing her fourth consecutive series title this season - bettered that when DSP Quantaz put 82.640 on the board. However it was the final four who really shook things up.

Carina Cassøe Krüth produced an exciting Freestyle with Helline’s Danciera who broke in extended trot but who was clapped up the final centreline of one-handed passage by the enthusiastic spectators. Their score of 83.670 gave them a short-lived advantage because compatriot Cathrine Dufour was next into the ring with Vamos Amigos who really raised the bar with a mark of 86.725. The youngest horse in the class at 10 years of age, this looks to be one with a really exciting future.

"He’s a very hot little man but very kind. He’s quite new to the game and I love him!"

Cathrine Dufour (DEN) talking about Vamos Amigos

The last of the Danes, Nanna Skodborg Merrald, then produced a personal-best with Atterupgaards Orthilia who posted 84.480 to slot in behind compatriot Dufour, but once von Bredow-Werndl and Dalera set off it always looked like a German win.

Plan

It didn’t all go quite to plan for the superstar partnership however, the normally very lady-like mare getting a little naughty in extended canter while there was also a break in the one-tempi canter changes. Such was the quality of the rest of the work however that the result never seemed in any real doubt, the pair earning multiple scores of 10 including across the board from all judges for their transitions to, and from, passage.

Von Bredow-Werndl admitted afterwards that she thought her mare was about to explode when she rocketed off in the extended canter.

"“She knew she shouldn’t do it, but she was just feeling too good! She’s so full of power and energy, but she trusts me and she came back to me very quickly!"

Jessica von Bredow-Werndl (GER)

 she said with a laugh.

At the post-competition press conference Dufour reflected on a really promising performance from her rising star. The Danish rider was making her debut at the Holstenhallen in Neumünster and said she really liked the venue and was delighted with her result with Vamos Amigos. “I couldn’t be happier”, she said, “adding that she was “super-pleased to be sitting next to Jessica and also Nanna because we have been competitors, colleagues and friends since we were children!”

Final

For today’s winner, attention now turns to the last Western European League qualifier ahead of the FEI Dressage World Cup™ Final 2022 which will take place in Leipzig, Germany from 6 to 10 April. In three weeks’ time there will be one more opportunity to collect qualifying points at ’s-Hertogenbosch in The Netherlands.

“You need to compete in three qualifiers to go to the Final and I’ve only done two so I’ll definitely have to go to Den Bosch. We haven’t had a Final for two years so we really want to get there this year!”, von Bredow-Werndl said.

After today’s fifth leg of the series she now lies joint-sixth on the Western European League leaderboard while Dufour has moved up to second behind Germany’s Frederic Wandres at the head of affairs.

NOTE FROM H2R

The comment from Jessica to do three qualifiers is of course in order to secure one of the three German spots for the final.

The World Cup rules says:

In any League, an athlete/horse combination may only start in six qualifying events. The three best results obtained in the qualifying events will count in the WEL, CEL and PAL, while the three best results will count in NAL. In order to qualify for the Final or a League Final an athlete horse/combination must have started and completed at least two times in the Grand Prix Freestyle to Music at a CDI-W.

VIDEO - Historiske 77% i World Cup til tre af dagens danske ekvipager i Neumünster

3 danske ekvipager førte an indtil tyske Jessica von Bredow-Werndl og Isabell Werth havde været på banen

Five starts five victories

Le Mans was again this year a huge success for Danish Nanna Merrald and her team.

Five starts and five victories for Danish Olympic rider Nanna Skodborg Merrald this weekend at Le Mans. Nanna was as always supported by her long time trainer Michael Søgaard and of course also with groom Ellen Glinvad Nielsen by her side. Sunday with two impressive victories where Nanna first with her small tour horse Blue Hors Znickers took the victory in CDI2 Intermediaire I freestyle with 78,365%. (video of the full test below) and later Nanna repeated her strength also winning her Grand Prix Special debut together with Blue Hors Zatchmo with 75,391% (with judge at B with the more correct level at 77%). They showed an effortless easy going test with super nice transitions in and out of passage, nice piaffe tours with good flow for transition, super strong canter tour with good straight series and super balanced pirouettes.

Nanna is now able to make her own “team” with currently 4 international top Grand Prix horses, Zack, Orthilia, Olymbrio and now Zatchmo.

Next weekend Nanna will bring Blue Hors Zack for the World Cup in Neumünster.

Danish Troensegaard takes the CDI3 Grand Prix freestyle victory with 76,250% at Le Mans

Huge Danish imprint again today at Le Mans

Danish Anne Troensegaard and 12 year old Trakehner gelding Kipling TSF by Hofrat / Hohenstein took an impressive victory today at Le Mans. It was just their 2nd international Grand Prix freestyle and also their 2nd international big tour event ever. The overall picture of Anne and Kipling is very positive, always super nice in the contact, powerful, attentive and really together about the job in the arena.

It was a brand new freestyle which suited the combination very nicely. The freestyle is composed by Nicole Pendzich (Kuermusik.de) also composer of freestyle for Olympic gold winner TSF Dalera BB and Jessica von Bredow-Werndl.

Anne and Kipper (stable name) has been together since Kipling was a youngster and back in 2017 as 7 year old they took bronze at World Championships for Young Horses in Ermelo. Anne and Kipling has over the years been trained by Danish top trainer Rune Willum. Kipling is bred by Peter Christensen and is still owned by the breeder and Anne Troensegaard together.

With this weekends results they are definitely ready for the next challenges hopefully at the international event at home soil in Herning in March and maybe Hagen in April, to gain more international experience.

Placed 4th in their first international Grand Prix freestyle was Danish Nanna Merrald with Gørklintgårds Quater Boy.

22 year old German Semmieke Rothenberger with Flanell by Apache / Blue Hors Don Schufro made their entrance at the senior scene with two strong performances this weekend. Today they came 2nd with a strong 76,180% performance.

Belgium Larissa Pauluis with Flambeau by Ampere / Zeoliet was originally discovered by Dr. Kerstin Klieber at the KWPN licensing, later sold to Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfvén and now successful with Belgium Larissa. A very expressive well moving and talented horse.

Here you find the entire results.

Nanna Merrald again at top of the podium

Today Nanna and Blue Hors Znickers took their 2nd victory at Le Mans alone in top of the field with a smooth expressive 73,765% test nearly 4,5% ahead of 2nd placed.

VIDEO - Danish Nanna Merrald conquer Le Mans again and super international senior debut for Semmieke Rothenberger

Again in the 2022 edition Danish Olympic rider Nanna Merrald conquer Le Mans, today bringing a new international Grand Prix partner.

In the Grand Prix Nanna shows the 13 year old Blue Hors Zatchmo by Blue Hors Zack out of a Donnerhall / Pik Bube I dam line (full sister to Blue Hors Don Schufro). Zatchmo is former ridden by Agnete Kirk Thinggaard but has not been at international start since 2020 winter season in Wellington.

Nanna and Zatchmo has been showing for a couple of times at national level each time with clear improvements.

Good entry halt, good extension, small hiccup at K see something but Nanna keep him focused with 2 nice well balanced half passes, super halt bit cautious rein back, good diagonal with nice transition to passage, good 1st piaffe with nice side picture tiny forward trend, good walk tour, missing bit more go for extended walk, good into passage, lacking bit more activity for 2nd piaffe but well managed with good transitions, nice into canter, good series, well balanced zigzag, 1st pirouette lack bit more control, 2nd very nice balanced, good final centerline. 75,456%

More Danish imprint

Last year Danish Warmblood Tørveslettens Titanium changes stable and is now ridden by Dutch Marieke van der Putten, and they really seems to be the perfect match. The Totilas / Stedinger son shows his highlights for the piaffe and passage tours, and overall very nice qualities with power finishing with 73,348%.

Last year Anne Troensegaard and Kipling made their Grand Prix debut at Nordic Baltic Championships and has lately been doing a few national shows. Overall a very harmonious and powerful picture and with a bit more experience they definitely moves into the long list for World Championship this summer at home soil in Denmark, and Anne is a very experienced rider and was part of the Danish team at WEG in Kentucky 2010.

Kipling TSF & Anne Troensegaard - Expressive test with good power

Entering halt a tiny bit unbalanced, super power diagonal, good half passes, good halt with rein back, good diagonal, nice into passage, lacking bit more clear transition to piaffe, missing bit more energy and let go becomes bit tense for transition out, good walk tour, nice into passage, good transitions, nice active piaffe, good into canter, nice well balanced canter tour with good series and nice control for pirouettes, but unfortunately 17 one times, good into trot, power diagonal, small lost of balance in the corner, good final centerline. 72,282% - placed 4th.

Placed 5th - Flanell & Semmieke Rothenberger

Impressive international senior debut

Good entrance and halt, power balanced diagonal, good go and flow of half passes, good halt bit tense rein back, nice diagonal, smooth into expressive passage, bit unbalanced into and out of 1st piaffe, bit forward piaffe, good clear rhythm for the walk, extended walk lacking bit more over track, small unbalance for transition to passage, much better balance for transitions 2nd piaffe, good piaffe, good into canter, super nice 2 times over the full diagonal, good extended canter, well balanced forward zigzag, good 1 times, well balanced pirouettes, good final centerline. 71,892% - Great picture of an international senior Grand Prix debut.

Nannas skills and talented horses

Once again Nanna proves herself as an outstanding rider being able to find the buttons and make it look like a long time partnership with both the horses today, as she also shows the quite inexperienced Blue Hors Znickers by Blue Hors Zack. They made their International debut together last year at small tour in Compiegne and today they took the victory in the Prix St. Georg.

Blue Hors Znickers & Nanna Merrald

Smooth expressive and supple trot tour, small canter for the half pass left, but quickly back into trot and finishing the half pass well balanced, the quality of the walk is a bit limited, but clear rhythm with good pirouettes, super nice well prepared canter pirouettes, nice balance and super sit, good 4 time, line with 3 times at the diagonal and behind a plant, but from the rhythm they looked ok. Into the lead with 73,353%

Equestrian sport confirmed in Initial Sports Programme for Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games

FEI Press RELEASE

Equestrian sport confirmed in Initial Sports Programme for Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games

The FEI President has welcomed the announcement by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that Equestrian sport is officially confirmed in the Initial Sports Programme for Los Angeles 2028.

The confirmation for inclusion in the LA 2028 Initial Sports Programme took place yesterday during the IOC session in Beijing (CHN), and followed the announcement by the IOC in December 2021 that equestrian sport was amongst the 28 sports proposed.

“We are delighted with this confirmation, which is a glowing endorsement of the valuable contribution and legacy that equestrian sport brings to the Olympic movement” FEI President Ingmar De Vos said.

“However, this is only a first step. The Equestrian Disciplines for LA2028 will be decided mid-2023 and the Equestrian Events and the Quota for LA will only be decided after Paris2024”.

Universality, integrity and fairness, gender equality and popularity were highlighted as key requirements of the evaluation criteria to determine the Disciplines and Events for the programme, in line with the recommendations of Olympic Agenda 2020+5. Athlete safety, environmental sustainability and keeping the sport relevant to youth were also reiterated as significant factors in the decision making process.

“We are committed to deliver successful sport at the Olympics and are passionate about universality and growing our sport to reach new audiences and develop talent around the world” FEI President Ingmar De Vos continued.

“Youth participation and development play a key role in this process, and will ensure we have a diverse and inclusive equestrian community for young people to grow, progress and strive for Olympic greatness.

“The youth are the future and with equestrian sport in the LA2028 programme, a youth focused Games, it’s an added incentive for our ambitious young athletes to prepare to showcase their talent on the biggest world stage.

“Consolidation of our place in the LA2028 Olympic programme will keep the equestrian community strong and resilient in this competitive sporting landscape”.

Day 1 at KWPN stallion show with 3 Premium stallion selected

49 young stallions were presented for the licensing commission today. Out of the 49 stallions a total of 23 were selected for the performance test and only 3 stallions were named Premium stallions.

No 300 by All at Once / Negro (out of same dam as Jameson RS2) bred by Stal 104

No 301 by All at Once / Davino V.O.D. bred by Stal 104, co-owned by Helgstrand Dressage and breeder

No 343 by Escamillo / Ferguson bred and owned by R.M. Vermunt Jr., Geesteren & Stal Brinkman, Twello

Two stallions were “missing”

No 352 by Escobar / Sandreo - a moderne long legged big framed stallion showing good power and swinging through the body, but unfortunately not even invited for the performance testing.

No 575 by Vitalis / All at Once - a super expressive stallion type, lots of suppleness with power, surprisingly not named Premium.

Here you find the entire results of stallions day 1.

8 stallions are up for sale at Online KWPN Select Sale from 4 - 7 February

8 dressage stallions will be available via KWPN Select Sale Online

All stallions are selected for 2nd inspection and will participate in Ermelo Friday and Saturday.
