SICAB 2018 starts tomorrow

The congress center Fibes in Sevilla is the exhibition for the next 6 days hosting World Championships for the Spanish pure bred horses in all disciplines, starting tomorrow with preliminary young horse tests.

Here you find the huge program for the next 6 days.

Sicab.tv will be live streaming from all the competitions.

ANCCE includes a trail assessment for 2 and 3-year-olds in freedom as part of the SICAB 2018 sports program

The novelty this year is that ANCCE will be implementing an assessment system for 2 and 3-year-old colts/fillies in freedom. This test is based on international criteria to assess the movements of the main sport breeds, in an effort to detect talented young horses with abilities for sports.

This test is well consolidated throughout Europe. One example are Dutch breeders, who have developed this text with their KWPN (Royal Dutch Sport Horse) for a number of reasons: as a breeding selection method, for breeders to test their own colts/fillies prior to begin them in the world of dressage and because at the end of the day, it is a new means to market the breed.

Using this system and as a reference, ANCCE would like to develop a pilot assessment test for colts/fillies during SICAB 2018, the International Purebred Spanish Horse Trade Fair. A team of renowned international judges—who are members of the KWPN breeding program team—will travel to SICAB to assess 2 and 3-year-old PRE colts/fillies as the perform natural paces. These young horses will be judged in the same arena as their Dutch sport horse counterparts.

This pilot test will take place on Friday, the 16th of November in Pavilion 1, so that breeders may become familiar with the test. ANCCE would like to consolidate this event as a competition in future years so as to offer a new marketing outlet for our horses, among other advantages.

The judges will assess the following aspects: walk, trot and canter, alignment (on a hard surface) and conformation for sport (a single score). Once each test has concluded, the quality of each colt/filly will be announced publically, as well as aspects to be improved. Owners will be given an assessment sheet.

Undoubtedly, there are multiple advantages when participating in this type of test to assess young horses, but one of the most important aspects that are beneficial to breeders is that the horse is not influenced by the presenter given that the colt/filly is presented at freedom. Another interesting aspect is that the cost is lower that with other competitions because there is no need for qualified staff to handle the horse and preparation is really basic.

International Grand Prix and Grand Prix Special debuts for Dorothee Schneider with 10 year old Pathetique

Pathetic and Dorothee Schneider

Pathetic and Dorothee Schneider

Friday with international debut in Grand Prix placed no 3 with 71,152% and today Dorothee took the victory in the Grand Prix Special in convincing style with 75,064%.

For sure it did not look like a debut ride today. Super harmony with great expression with the just 10 year old mare by Quaterback - Casado. Still lacking a bit more security and power for the piaffe tours, but Dorothee manage to show the exercise with nice balance and without any pressure. Lots of highlights during the test shown in a lovely balance.

International Grand Prix Special debut for Anna Kasprzak with Quarton

Yet another Quaterback top horse enters the international arena, this time with Danish Anna Kasprzak in the saddle. Quarton is just 9 year old and also doing his first international Grand Prix Special successfully today. Lovely power all the way, nice regular passage, lacking bit more sharpness for the transitions into piaffe. The first piaffe becomes bit limited as he is obviously not familiar with the transition and the exercise at that letter yet, the next two piaffe tours becomes better. Nice half passes, good extensions with nice transitions, good series and well managed pirouettes. Great achievement and also a great international debut weekend for Anna Kasprzak with a new youngster.

Lone Bang Larsen with Bakkely´s Onandt shows a strong test, unfortunately with a few issues for the final part of the test today, but still manage at good score above 70%.

Danish Warmblood gelding Rossetti ridden by Finnish Henri Rouste is a quality power horse, but still not able to show the entire test with the necessary relaxation. Still just 10 year old and with huge potential.

First Romance and Dorothee Schneider getting ready for Nürnberger Burg-Pokal final

In a month time it is final time for the prestigious Nürnberger Burg-Pokal taking place during the international event in Frankfurt, and this weekend Germany´s Dorothee Schneider brought one of her two qualified horses for the small tour at Blue Hors Dressage Festival in Denmark.

With First Romance she qualified for the Nürnberger Burg-Pokal final back in Mannheim earlier this year, and Saturday she won the international Prix Sct. Georg at Blue Hors with 75,529% and repeated her success winning today’s Intermediaire I with 75,588%.

First Romance is a gelding 8 year old by Fürst Romancier / Day Dream.

H2R comments during today’s test:

First Romance GER - super start, super nice and easy trot tour, nice balance and lightness, good halt with rein back, nice frame, superb walk tour both collected and extended, good zig-zag bit tense for the changes, series becomes a bit tense, nice control for both pirouettes, good transition to trot at C, nice extended trot, super final halt.

Top placement for Danish Lone Bang Larsen with Thranegaardens Rostov

International Danish rider Lone Bang Larsen is showing in both the small tour and the big tour at Blue Hors this weekend. For the small tour she brought her 8 year old mare by Blue Hors Romanov. The powerful mare is without any weaknesses with 3 super nice gaits, natural suppleness in the body and eager to do the job in the arena.

Successful weekend placed 2nd in yesterday’s international Prix Sct. Georg with 72,206% and today’s Intermediaire I with 72,941%.

H2R comments during the test:

Thranegaardens Rostov DEN - good start super nice flow for the entire trot tour with good expression and good balance. Bit tense rein back, good transition to walk, super walk tour with superb overtrack and relaxation for the extended walk, nice zig-zag canter, well balanced series, good balance and nice sit for both pirouettes small step to the side 2nd pirouette, bit stocked transition to trot at C, nice extension, bit open halt.

Personal best

Sharp performance with super qualities for Daniel and Don O today. It was actually just their 3rd ever International freestyle, and today they just raised the bars from best freestyle at 75% back in March to 80% today.

Dorothee Schneider was struggling with the one times today both for the ordinary test and for the jokerline, but a part from that a strong easy performance.

Danish Carina Cassøe Krüth and her 15 year old mare May-Day Graftebjerg are just getting stronger and stronger together in the arena.

Minna Telde is a sharp performer even though Isac finds the surroundings a bit exciting, Minna keeps him focused with a strong test.

Lovely watching Norwegian Cathrine Rasmussen back at international level, now with the mare Fine Time, as it seems that they just have to get to know each other in the arena, in order to get maximum outcome.

Se resultatet af klassen her.

Prix Sct. Georg - Youngster Cup

Super afspændt kvalitet i skridten.

I travturen bliver Thybo´s Laban momentvis lidt dyb i formen.

As the live stream from Blue Hors Dressage Festival first is available from tomorrow H2R caught judge at B, Danish Susanne Baarup for a small “update” about today’s international Grand Prix.

“The overall impression from today’s class was good, especially with the top of the class with more highlights.

Daniel and Olymbrio shows a strong trot tour with nice passage and piaffe tours, the canter tour becomes with some smaller “home soil” tensions.

Dorothee Schneider shows a great test, with nice light contact and with a surplus for a fantastic canter tour, super well balanced uphill with top qualities.

Carina Cassøe Krüth with May-Day Graftebjerg shows a very smooth and well balanced trot tour with nice flow, good piaffe and passage tours, good walk tour, unfortunately with an error for the one times and a small error by the zig-zag with parallel hindlegs for one transition.

Minna Telde and Isac with highlights for the trot tour with super extensions and half passes, the canter tour becomes with some tensions.

International Grand Prix debut for Quarton with Anna Kasprzak, and he was really on fire, for more moments even a bit too over energetic, and with an error for the two times,” tell Susanne Baarup.

Remember live stream Saturday and Sunday is available via Zibrasport.tv.

The Danish Warmblood gelding Rossetti by Blue Hors Romanov - Midt-West Ibi-Light ridden by Finnish Henri Rouste “showed super qualities for the trot work with lovely passage, but unfortunately with tensions for the canter tour” tells Susanne Baarup. The gelding is former ridden and educated by Jan Møller Christensen.

FEI press release - Sweden’s Kittel and Ramel claim second and third

Screen Shot 2018-11-03 at 07.46.12.png
Screen Shot 2018-11-03 at 07.46.32.png

Defending series champion and equestrian sports legend, Germany’s Isabell Werth (49), kicked off her FEI Dressage World Cup™ 2018/2019 campaign today with a convincing win with Emilio at the second leg of the Western European League series at Equita Longines in Lyon, France.

With two Technical scores over 80 percent and one Artistic mark of 93 percent, the six-time Olympic gold medallist racked up a total of 84.410 that left her well clear of Sweden’s Patrik Kittel (42) in second and Antonia Ramel (33) in third.

Werth, who took triple-gold at the 2017 FEI European Championships and double-gold at the FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) just seven weeks ago, is already aiming for a fifth FEI Dressage World Cup™ title, and her third in a row, when the series finale returns to Gothenburg, Sweden next April. However she only just managed to keep Kittel at bay in yesterday’s Grand Prix and was deeply disappointed with that performance. But with typical skill and determination, the lady who has three horses in the top four in the current World Rankings just turned it all around again this evening with a sparkling ride that left the result beyond doubt.

"I’m very happy - yesterday Emilio was full of tension but today he was much better from the beginning, and he got back his confidence step by step during the competition"

Isabell Werth (GER)

Great Britain’s Hayley Watson-Greaves (35) and Rubin’s Night raised the bar to 77.355 percent in the closing stages and young Spaniard, Juan Matute Guimon (21), slotted in behind her when posting 77.070 for an eye-catching test with Quantico that included a one-handed pirouette. But Werth blew that all into infinity with her massive score, and it was the two Swedes who proved her closest rivals at the end of the day.

Ramel’s 80.060 with Brother de Jeu was hugely impressive and took even her by surprise. But the talented rider who has been on two winning Nations Cup teams for her country this year has been training diligently with three-time Olympian Kittel for the last two years, and he was very proud of her this evening.

He is often coached by Werth, and earlier this week he visited her to ask her advice about his stallion, Delatio. “I was at Isabell’s on Monday because I wasn’t sure if I should take him to Lyon - but she said yes!” said the Swedish star who scored a handsome 80.980 for second place.

Talking about Emilio, Werth said, “it’s his first competition since Aachen (where he won the Freestyle and Special and was on the winning team in July), it’s his first indoor of the season and it’s a new Freestyle for him so there were a lot of new things for him to handle and I’m very happy how it went, even though there are still some details to be worked out.” She has exchanged her Freestyle programmes, with Bella Rose now doing Emilio’s floorplan while Emilio does the one designed for her WEG-winning mare. Emilio is looking slimmer and fitter than ever...

"Yes he has more muscle and less fat! So the canter-work is much better and I was sad that yesterday I couldn’t show that, but today it came back!"

Isabell Werth (GER)

Werth plans to compete all three of her top horses during the 10-leg Western European League, and Emilio will be back in action for the next leg in Stuttgart (GER) in two weeks’ time where Bella Rose will also line out.

World Cup victory for Isabell Werth with Emilio in Lyon today and huge imprint from young Antonia Ramel placed 3rd

As co-commentator international judge Jean Michel Roudier said at FEI-tv today “Isabell Werth is able to make her own team with her top horses and still being in the medals”.

The young ones were on fire

When Werth and Kittel are at the start list it is always a very difficult challenge for the competitors. And both top experienced riders showed great performances, and with Kittels freestyle debut together with Delatio scoring nearly 81% - that’s awesome.

Spains Juan Matute Guimon with personal best score with Quantico 77,070%, Morgan Barbancon Mestre with Sir Donnerhall II showed a strong test scoring 75,880% - nearly up to her personal best, while Swedens Antonia Ramel with Brother de Jeu just stepped into the -80% league at freestyle with a 3rd place scoring 80,060%. Last time they showed freestyle was at Falsterbo scoring 74,660%.

Overall picture with a powerful and top motivated Brother de Jeu, with strong passage and piaffe tour, super nice pirouettes and nice series, and icing on the top was her very young and modern choice of music which really suits all the way.
